“Marvel NOW” – Marvel Relaunches The Marvel Universe Post “AvX”
Marvel has been promising long-lasting changes to the Marvel Universe in the aftermath of Avengers vs. X-Men and it seems that they were not lying. Starting in October, Marvel will launch “Marvel NOW”, what they claim will be an accessible entry point for lapsed and new readers into the Marvel Universe with #1s.
Read on for details.
Whilst the full scope of the relaunch remains to be revealed, in the Comic-Con special issue of EW, it was revealed that throughout October, Marvel will launch an array of new titles each week, whilst additional new titles and relaunches of some classic books will continue through to February 2013.
As of now only three new titles have been revealed:
- Uncanny Avengers by Rick Remender and John Cassaday. This title will feature a team composed of Captain America, Wolverine and others from the Avengers and the X-Men, who are combating the threat of the mutant-hating Red Skull.
- All New X-Men by Brian Michael Bendis and Stuart Immonen. This title repositions the X-Men in the aftermath of AvX, when the original five X-Men are someone transported to the present.
- Avengers by Jonathan Hickman and Jerome Opena. Details are sparse on this title, besides it having a bi-weekly release schedule and featuring a roster of 18 heroes.
As expected, Marvel is promising more creative shakeups throughout their books, whilst every comic featuring the “Marvel NOW” banner will apparently feature what Quesada describes as new “cinematic” cover designs, whilst many characters will wear redesigned costumes.
So what are your thoughts? The shakeup of the Avengers and X-Men corners of the Marvel Universe were expected, but just what does this mean for titles such as Daredevil and Journey into Mystery? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
