New “EVE Online” Expansion Will Free Up The Bounty System
With EVE Online’s 10th anniversary coming up next year, CCP Games is set to release a new expansion called EVE Online: Retribution in December. It will free up the parameters of the in-game bounty system — meaning players can better decide who the bad guys are.
Hit the break for more space outlaw details.
For now, EVE Online has limits on who can be deemed a criminal. And the current aggression system is so complex, experienced players can use it to trick new players who haven’t figured out how to signal aggression — or how to avoid signaling it when they’re not ready for combat.
With Retribution, players will be able to put bounties on other players as well as corporations and alliances, with no security rating thresholds getting in the way. Players will be able to broadcast the location of criminals. When you’re cruising among the stars, you’ll be able to track local criminals if you feel like playing bounty bunter. And though the game promises to retain its complexity, Retribution will feature a simplified aggression system, tooltip makeover and streamlined weapon safety settings.
If you love your ships, you’re in luck: Retribution will remodel some ships and introduce new ones, including the Salvage Drone promised earlier this year. You can also expect interface updates, improved NPC AI and a read/write system.
With all the useful streamlining, there’s no better time to get into EVE Online. And though being an outlaw is going to become a lot more dangerous, it’s definitely a smart time to get into the bounty hunting business.
EVE Online: Retribution comes out December 4.
