Weekend Remix:  Kombat Rock!

Song: Mortal Kombat 3 ‘Mortal Konfrontation’
By: The Dual Dragons
Based On: Character Selection Screen, In the Beginning…, The Subway
Original Composer: Dan Forden

Get Over Here for this week’s edition of the Weekend Remix. Now 2011 has served as perhaps one of the biggest years for gaming franchise Mortal Kombat. The series made its triumphant return thanks to a fantastic game that seemed to resurrect the title from mediocrity. Follow that with a successful web series and the potential for a decent film—anything is better than Armageddon—and you could call this year a Flawless Victory.

It’s a wonder, however, why there aren’t a huge number of remixes dedicated to the music. Sure touching the Utah Saints classic from the movie is an unspoken ban. But there are plenty of other selections begging for the remix treatment. Luckily, The Dual Dragons decided to answer the call with a guitar dominated remix that’s about as brutal as a Sub-Zero spine rip.

The Dragons decided to take a stab at combining three selections from Ultimate Mortal Kombat three and brewing a heavy mix that sounds like it actually belonged in the game. Maybe it’s the way the song amps up when you hear a gritty “Fight” escape the speakers. Perhaps it was the blistering solo at the end. Or the polished garage type production. But the song feels like an adrenaline shot of 90’s nostalgia.

Seriously, I thought that my headphones were going to shoot out Pogs.

If you’d like to check out more from the Dragons, you can find them here.

Until next weekend…GO Party!
