Previously in Bleach: The members of Soul Society sent to aid Ichigo in his assault against Ginjo and regrouped after having defeated their foes. Ichigo and Ginjou faced off with Ginjou telling him that he should be fighting someone else.
Who was it? Read on!
Kubo spent much of the chapter revealing the origin of the Shinigami Badge. Contrary to popular belief, it was not badge of honor for gifted humans with soul reaper powers, but rather a surveillance and power limiting device. Why was this given to substitutes by Ukitake, and why was Ichigo misled by this? Who knows, but it works to provide some dubious aspect behind the motives of Soul Society. Which is fitting, though not earth shattering, since it isn’t as if Soul Society has been perfect saints in the past (modsouls).
Ishida seemed to freak out at the news and was afraid it would destroy Ichigo’s resolve, but like the readers, it didn’t. We finally reached the point I was waiting for: Ichigo using Bankai. What will it involve? Will it have some aspects of Fullbring incorporated?!
Overall, it was a decent chapter with a good direction for the future. Elucidating the meaning of the badge worked well and revealing a shadowy character behind Soul Society was intriguing. One must not forget that Urahara rushed to the scene as well, so maybe there is more behind it? Hopefully.
