“Ookami is about a 19-year-old girl named Hana, who fell in love with a wolfman [or a werewolf] and have 2 children, named Yuki and Ame. Both children were named after the days on which they were born, days with snow and rain respecitively. The four of them live hidden away in a corner of the city, to avoid the discovery of the children. However when the wolfman dies, Hana decides to move her family to Inakamchi, the countryside to start anew.
Just as “Youth” and “Family” were explored as themes for The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Summer Wars respectively, Ookami will focus on thirteen years of Hana’s life as she falls in love, gets married, gives birth to her children and raises them.
Besides the main theme, the Wolfman’s children will be used as motifs to draw out the differences and similarities between the world of human and the wolf. Hosada has said that it will be a piece of animation film that nobody has ever seen before.
Harada aims to make the film a refreshing entertainment experience for audiences of all ages. Children will find it a fun and enjoyable fairytale; youths will be surprised at the experience that they have not had yet : the raising of a child and yearn for it; lastly parents will once again marvel and reminisce the miracle of a child growing up.”
