It seems that musical theater is becoming the new black when it comes to cross promotion. Recently, word dropped of a Rocky musical in the works, and now things are about to become Shageriffic, baby. Yeah!

Negotiations are moving forward with a proposed Austin Powers musical. Mike Myers is working on the storyline, which is going to be a prequel for the series, with Casey Nicholaw (The Book Of Mormon) set to co-direct.

Apparently, the story will explore how Austin got his mojo.

Burt Bacharach and Elvis Costello will write the music.

To be honest, an Austin Powers musical seems like a really good idea, what with its adult, yet cartoonish humor. And it certainly makes much more sense to me than say Rocky or Spider-Man hitting Broadway. Here’s hoping that it works.
