The Weekly Pull List 01/18/12

Howdy, and welcome to another slightly delayed edition of the Weekly Pull List!
This week features some real great comics, and as usual, I am joined by fellow comics contributor Ryley (ryley-stbatman), as we detail the titles which are on our Pull lists for the week.
Read on my friends…
——
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #678

Ryley: Spidey gets a look at the not too distant future, and as you can tell by seeing the cover up there, it’s not looking too pretty. I’ll assume this leads into the upcoming Spidey event starting in a couple of months, just like #676 did (well, as far as introducing Doc Ock’s plot and bringing his Secret Six together). Should be a fine place for new readers.
——
AVENGING SPIDER-MAN #3

Sam: As expected, things haven’t gone entirely to plan. With the Red Hulk seemingly fatally wounded at the end of the last issue, it’s now up to Spider-Man to stand alone against the subterranean invasion of Manhattan! Should be a simple job, right?
——
BATMAN #5

Ryley: There’s not much more to say that hasn’t been said yet here, but this series is fantastic. Snyder has been hitting it each month, and it just gets better and better. Don’t miss out, especially Batman fans.
Sam: The first four issues have been fantastic, and I see no reason this issue won’t be the same. With Batman now trapped in a labyrinth deep beneath Gotham City, our favorite Dark Knight it is fairly safe to say that our favorite Dark Knight isn’t doing too well at the moment. I can’t wait to see what Snyder does next…
——
BLUE BEETLE #5

Sam: This series still doesn’t feel like it has really hit its stride yet, but last issue sure as hell was a shocking ending. With Paco learning of Jaime’s identity – and then being brutally wounded by Jaime! Whatever happens, this issue won’t be dull.
——
CHEW #23

Ryley: We’re just now at part three of “Major League Chew”, but I’m pretty sure this arc should be over by now… come on guys! Get back on schedule! I’ll forgive them, though, as every issue they churn out is always quality.
——
DAREDEVIL #8

Ryley: Part two of the crossover with Spider-Man! New readers should jump on with next issue, but if you’ve been reading so far you know how awesome this should be. Plus, guest art by KANO.
Sam: This is the second part of the story which ran in last week’s Amazing Spider-Man. I don’t really know what else to say, other than that issue was pretty solid, and I look forward to reading the conclusion.
——
FABLES #113

Ryley: Another standalone issue for the Fables. Not sure what’s going to happen and I don’t really care because chances are that I’ll enjoy reading it regardless. Plus, that’s a nice cover.
——
GREEN LANTERN CORPS #5

Sam: With last month’s reveal over just who the Ring Slayers are and what their goal is, this story is finally shaping up well. This issue promises some insane action led by Guy, as he leads a strike team into the Ring Slayers dimension in a daring rescue attempt. Should only be awesome.
——
INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #512

Ryley: This arc really seems like a culmination of the ingredients that Fraction’s been putting forth through his whole run on the series. The Mandarin is in the foreground, he’s working with Stane, and we also have the Hammer girls. So I guess you can assume things aren’t going to go too nicely for Tony. If you were a fan of the earlier parts of Fraction’s series, then this is the arc you’ve been waiting for.
——
JOHN CARTER: A PRINCESS OF MARS #5

Sam: Not much to say here, other than this has been a fantastic mini-series, and I’m really looking forward to finding out how it all ends. If you haven’t been reading this, then I would strongly recommend you check out the trade when it is released. This has been a great read.
——
MOON KNIGHT #9

Ryley: First, look at the awesomeness that is that cover. Now, if you aren’t already buying this title go ahead and fix that. This issue is supposed to be pretty important as we have Marc going head to head with the recently revealed “Kingpin of LA”. Now just to see how this little tussle ends… and where will it take Marc?
——
SUPERIOR #7

Ryley: The end of the first series is here! Superior’s been a wild ride so far, and I’m pretty excited to see how Millar will tie it together. If you haven’t been reading it then you’ll have to wait for the collection, but I can say I highly recommend it.
——
THUNDERBOLTS #169

Ryley: The T-bolts continue their merry stroll through time, this time ending up in the medieval period to see themselves mixed up with the Black Knight. Should prove fun, just like the rest of the time travel arcs, but what I’m really interested in is seeing the book more towards the impending battle between the current team, and the one from the past.
——
UNCANNY X-FORCE #20

Ryley: The new arc starts here! Last issue was a sort of lead in to this… or at least the last few pages were. Fantomex will stand on trial for what he’s done, and he’ll have to face the Captain Britain Corps because of it. Meanwhile, the rest of the team has their own troubles to deal with. If you haven’t been reading UXF yet… come on now, this is a great jumping on point.
——
UNCANNY X-MEN #5

Ryley: Another jumping on point! The X-Men are about to head to a new area of the Marvel Universe called Tabula Rasa! What is it, and why is Psylocke stabbing a giant bat? Well, I guess you’ll have to buy this issue to find out.
Sam: I don’t have much to add really, other than that sure as hell is an interesting cover. The X-solicits really aren’t giving much away at the moment. If you haven’t been reading this excellent title however, then this is a great point to jump on.
——
VENOM #12

Ryley: Venom’s road trip with Jack-O-Lantern brings them to Las Vegas, which in turn brings us to the conclusion of this arc and the beginning of next months Venom event! Also, Toxin is here, and it’s going to be awesome. The issue as a whole will be awesome. You can quote me on that.
——-
WONDER WOMAN #5

Ryley: Same can be said here as was said about Batman. This series is constantly great, and I can’t wait to see what comes next. This issue features guest art, so we’ll be taking a brief break from the great Cliff Chiang.
Sam: Another title which just keeps on delivering. After last issue’s shocking ending, I’m really interested in just where this is all going. Looks like we could be finding out soon, as two of the most powerful Gods of the pantheon are coming to visit in this issue!
