The Weekly Pull List: 02/01/12

Howdy folks, and welcome to another edition of the Weekly Pull List.
As usual, I am joined by fellow comics contributor Ryley (ryley-stbatman), as we detail the comics which we will be picking up this week.
Read on…
——
ACTION COMICS #6

Ryley: Last issue was both exciting and it was very curious. We’ve been introduced to a load of new characters, and it seems that Superman from the present is about to help out Superman from the past as we move forward in Morrison’s ongoing story. It’s going to be quite awesome.
Sam: Grant Morrison’s opening story on Action Comics took an interesting turn last issue, and I’m really intrigued about just what Morrison has planned next. I’m not even going to try and second guess just what that is, but just looking at the solicit for this issue seems to promise some amazing stuff. Don’t miss it.
——
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #679

Ryley: Last issue was nothing I expected it to be, but it was everything I could have asked for. Spidey’s in a bit of a fix as he has to find out what exactly happens that’s going to destroy the world, and then he needs to stop it. It sounds odd, but it’s really a great arc, and I really can’t express much more that every Spidey fan really should be reading this series.
——
ANIMAL MAN #6

Ryley: After the conclusion of “The Hunt” in the last issue, this issue takes a break to show us one of the films that Buddy worked on while he was an indie actor. As always, I’m really looking forward to this series, and this issue and next are both nice places for new readers to jump in.
Sam: I’ve been really looking forward to this issue, with it giving us a chance to “watch” the film which Buddy starred in. With guest pencils from John Paul Leon, this should be a really fun little issue, which should be a nice change of pace before the struggle between the Red and the Rot continues.
——
GREEN ARROW #6

Sam: The final issue of Giffen’s short stint on the title, which promises to reveal the mystery behind Blood Rose, as well as a lovely confrontation with Midas. Not much else to say here, other than next issue sees Nocenti take the reins, who will hopefully offer some stability and quality, which Green Arrow comics have been sadly lacking lately.
——
JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL #6

Sam: This issue deals with the fallout of the JLI’s first successful mission, whereby they saw off Peraxxus which saved Earth. Now the team need to decide whether or not to stick together…
Despite dealing with the aftermath of the opening story-arc, this is probably a nice little jumping on point for anyone interested in this title.
——
IZOMBIE #22

Ryley: Things are getting pretty deep for our main zombie Gwen as she’s getting more and more involved in what seems to be a really long running history between Amon, Galatea, and all the monsters involved. If none of that means anything to you, then it just means that you still need to be reading this book.
——
PUNISHER #8

Ryley: There’s a lot to say about Greg Rucka’s Punisher. It’s not your usual Punisher story, which means that it’s definitely something to check out. This issue puts Frank up against some ex-Hydra and AIM agents, so it should be well full of action for those who take their Punisher with several spoonfuls of blood.
——
STORMWATCH #6

Sam: The final issue of Cornell’s opening storyline, which promises to see the team reform in the aftermath of its betrayal and collapse. Whilst this series has been somewhat inconsistent, I’m actually looking forward to how Cornell ends this story – as well as how he leaves the team for Milligan to pick up…
——
SWAMP THING #6

Ryley: Things really haven’t been looking too good for Alec Holland lately; but good for us, now it seems that he’s once again manifesting his Swamp Thing powers. Snyder’s series has never been short of creepy and astonishingly well done, making it one of the best titles of DC’s New 52. If you aren’t already reading it, do whatever you can to get caught up.
Sam: I don’t really know what to say about this comic that hasn’t been said before. Since #1 it has been just flat out amazing, and this issue looks set to be a great read once more, with everything looking pretty dire to Alec – and the world right now.
——
SWEET TOOTH #30

Ryley: For readers, you know that a big revelation came at the end of the last issue. That said, I cannot wait to see what’s coming next for Gus, Jeppard, and the rest of the gang. Something bad’s sure to be just around the corner, but it’s just a matter of who it’ll happen to now.
——
UNCANNY X-FORCE #21

Ryley: Last issue began a new arc in which we have Fantomex on trial for his actions in the first arc of the series. Now we have the rest of the X-Force entering the Otherworld to rescue him, but it won’t be as simple a rescue mission as they’d hope… but when is anything really simple for X-Force?
——
UNCANNY X-MEN #6

Ryley: Exploration of Tabula Rasa continues and it doesn’t look like anyone is really in a good position. Especially not Psylocke or Magneto. I’m especially excited about this arc since it’s tying into the Dark Angel Saga from Uncanny X-Force, so fans of that series should really be reading this one right now.
Sam: The second part of the “Tabula Rasa” storyline, and as Ryley said, things aren’t particularly looking too great, with Cyclops and his team exploring a strange world where evolution has really done some amazing things. Definitely worth a cheeky read.
——
VENOM #13

Ryley: “Circle of Four” begins! Every week in February (as well as the first in March) we’re getting an issue of this Venom event, which is co-starring Red Hulk, X-23, and Ghost Rider as they’re up against an enemy that they apparently aren’t able to face alone. This is also going to be a culmination of a lot of what’s been happening in Venom since the beginning of the series, and according to Marvel, it might be tying into a upcoming “secret symbiote event”.
——
WINTER SOLDIER #1

Ryley: Bucky’s got his own series again! After the events of “Fear Itself” in which Bucky Barnes was presumed dead Nick Fury gave him the last of his Infinity Formula and then had him once again become the Winter Soldier in order to be a secret agent that only very few know is still alive. Bucky’s run as Captain America was the best part of Brubaker’s Captain America series, so having Brubaker return to the character makes me extremely happy and excited. Plus, Butch Guice is joining him again, so it’s going to look amazing.
Sam: The Winter Solder lives! But what if he’s not the only soldier? This is a series that I’ve really been looking forward to since its announcement, with Bucky and the Black Widow springing into action when ex-Russian sleeper agents start to awaken en masse. Add to that some lovely Guice art, and this is a title which everyone should check out, at least just for the first issue.
