Anime Review: Mirai Nikki - 19

Woah, hold the phone. We’ve got a bad boy up in here! When did this happen, Yuki?

——

WHAT. THE. CRAP. Oh my goodness, that episode was insane! I haven’t been this excited for this show since literally the second or third episode. What a twist! There is nothing better than this!

Let me attempt to be coherent for a moment: This episode was really good. No, it was amazing. I mean, the entire time, I felt like Australia. The first few minutes were a bit slow and just very confusing in general. The huge personality change over Yuki was unsettling enough. I’m honestly still really surprised that Yuki acted out like he did, even if Yuno was the one behind it all. And while I like that Yuki is taking action, it’s still as Yuno’s puppet. In fact, in the same situation, First probably would’ve have tried to reason Second out of it, saying that it was too aggressive or something. The huge contrast between Yuki even one episode ago and the current one is jarring to say the least. How I feel about this change is still unclear, but it has definitely made everything much more exciting.

Speaking of “Yuno”, I never expected that in a million years. Although, that skeleton could have been anyone and I still would have been ecstatic about it. But having it identified as the real Yuno was just mind-blowing. For the umpteenth time, we have more earth shattering proof that Yuno is just bat-shit crazy. Though I guess she’s not really Yuno anymore. Which begs the question just who is this girl then? And when did she make the change? I can’t believe we still have six more episodes to go before the end. I can’t even think of how this series will end, let alone how it’s going to get there. Manga readers, please tell me if the manga is better because I am now seriously thinking of going back to read it once the anime is done. Mirai Nikki has not been the most consistent show by a long shot, but it is a good series. If the manga is anything like the anime, it’s something I’m going to have to look into.

Needless to say, Mirai Nikki has gotten scary good scary fast. To think that this was the same show I was writing disappointed reviews about just a couple months ago is amazing to me. It seems like it’s approaching the final stretch, but with the amount of twists and turns it’s thrown at me, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was just starting to get good now.
