Anime Review: Rinne no Lagrange - 7

Things I never thought I’d hear myself say: What about the robots?!
——

This week, I am forgoing my usual format of images because I want to make sure that the impact of how bizzarre this episode is hits you full force. Now, assuredly, this isn’t so weird for anime period, but Rinne has been relatively mild and tasteful as far as the fan service goes. But this week, they throw the plot out the window for gratuitous service with…eels.
The only real aknowledgement we get of the last episode is the fact that Muginami is still upset over Villagiulio as well as guilty about turning on Lan and Madoka. We see flashbacks of Muginami as a young girl, but it gets kind of lost in how absurd everything suddenly gets.
And the eels, oh lord the eels. The Jersey Club gets tasked with retrieving live eels that have been released in the swimming pool at the school. Apparently Japanese fish market workers can’t recognize a swimming pool, and instead mistake it for some sort of giant holding tank and release the eels there. Seriously? Seriously?

There was a large focus on bathing this time around, too. Madoka and Muginami spend time in the bath together, which Lan is apparently jealous of. This leads to them stripping down on a public beach and going skinny dipping. I can’t imagine on what plane of existence our shy princess would be willing to do that, but who needs character continuity when we can have boobs!

And maids! And boob grabbing! Did I mention the boobs?
This episode really was a complete train wreck. Muginami’s reconciliation with the other two girls was buried under the OOC fanservice and ridiculous plot devices, and we still have absolutely no idea what was up with the robots just suddenly crashing in the last episode. We don’t know where the villains went, what was up with the smiley guy having his little melt down at the very end last week, or anything that pertains to the plot. Even Lan’s adorableness isn’t enough to save the rating.
