Anime Review: Persona 4 The Animation - 20

Did you know what Big Brother Yuu is a natural gigolo? Based on everyone’s reactions, I guess there’s no use denying that fact. And because he’s such a pimp, another girl is pretty much friendzoned, that being the giggle monster named Yukiko. Yeah, I’m not going to bother with the romance speculations because I know the production team wants to leave that completely open ended and let the rabid fans debate it for the rest of their lives. Maybe Margaret will swoop in be the Empress of the Fool since she’s giving more of the cougar vibe by the episode. And I believe she mentions her sister for the first time this series. Ah, Persona 3 Easter eggs.

Following the school festival is the after party at the Amagi Inn. That only means two things: girls bonding in the nudes and infinite buckets to the head for the dudes. It’s unfortunate that girls can get away with everything like mistaking the bath time but at least we get to see Naoto being extremely shy. Like extremely shy. I think that’s the only weapon that can make Kanji fall to his knees and concede defeat. Also, having Nanako around with all the cool high schoolers is just a tease for that one final plot. If that warning letter is any indication, someone is on Yuu’s case about the saving people activity.

I feel slightly bad that Yukiko’s Social Link feels pretty weak and bland but it still follows the script from the game, minus the deep feelings part. The way she snaps at the shady reporters makes her more than just a boring character like many may feel towards her. Being a Yukiko fan myself, it’s hard to feel satisfied without the romance end.

Much of the episode isn’t that impressive but it’s fun to watch Yuu and the guys get into trouble all night. With group morale dropping after each failed execution, taking out their pains with angry table tennis is pretty hilarious. Even more so than Yukiko or any of the other girls, Yuu seems pretty sensitive around Nanako’s innocence. “Big bro, you’re a pervert?” Tears ensue.
