Anime Review: Zero no Tsukaima F - 8

Whoever makes Tifania cry will be forced to read a long review, and believe me, that’s not any fun at all.

Saito, go for the harem end. I’ve been back and forth on this but by the end of the day, the other girls have MUCH more to offer than Zero Louise. For example, take Tifania. She may be just as useless as Louise but I think being a half-elf and also wielding the Void magic help make this a strong case. Also allowing Saito to be her familiar and thus that contractual kiss nudges him closer to her. Come on Saito, Tifania is far sweeter and perhaps just as loyal as Louise is. Or at least now that you got two marks on your body, will you choose Tifania over Siesta to sleep to your right?

Honestly, I was hoping that Lukshana would somehow hop on the Saito express but that is a lot of wishful thinking. However, it’s good to see some kind of closure to the arc in the Elven land even if this perception that humans have evil powers will never be resolved within the limits of the anime series. I find the bias, the prophecy and the stereotype to be hilarious but that’s only being ignorant on my part—people do have tendencies, regardless of race or species, to act on perceived evil. Although the fighter jet is being left behind at the moment, I wouldn’t be surprised if Vitartial came out into the open later on and plead on behalf of Saito (and the humans) to unlock that weapon against the common greater enemy, be that the little bishounen runt of the elemental siblings or, mayhaps, Joseph’s revived form. *gasp*

I can’t say that I’m greatly satisfied by the plot, but any more idol time in the desert might have left a nasty aftertaste. Even with giving Tifania the familiar she always wanted ultimately leads to Louise’s Void magic to act, it’s better than having to put up with a standstill of Saito putting on a bravado and Louise crying in the airship. Maybe the end of the episode is a little too comical but ZnT is best when nothing’s taken too seriously. When things get overly dramatic, then I start wondering what the next service filler would be about and then I repeat the cycle of wanting a plot that is half-heartedly carried out. For now, I’ll celebrate Tifania’s increased role and the upcoming coronation for Queen Charlotte, and hope that everything is relevant to the end.
