Elizabeth Olsen Offered Female Lead In “Oldboy” Remake

The female lead for Spike Lee’s upcoming Oldboy remake has been quite fluid. This time, Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene) is the latest actress to be offered the role.
More details after the break.

According to Twitch, the still-vacant role of Marie, the female lead character in the U.S. remake of Oldboy, has been offered to Elizabeth Olsen. The role was previously turned down by Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and Mia Wasikowsa (Alice in Wonderland).
Olsen, known for being the younger sister of famous twins Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, has started to turn heads with her indie performances in Sundance hits Martha Marcy May Marlene and Red Lights. Viewed as a rising young star, she has the potential to completely remove herself from her sisters’ Hollywood shadows should she continue to impress with her acting chops like she has been with her recent dark and complicated roles.
Should she accept the role of Marie, she would star opposite Josh Brolin (No Country For Old Men), who is locked to play the titled oldboy.
The original Oldboy is a famous 2003 South Korean psychological thriller directed by Park Chan Wook. It was adapted from a Japanese manga written by Nobuaki Minegishi and Garon Tsuchiya.
Due to casting issues, production has understandably been pushed back. No release date has been set for director Lee’s remake.
