Anime Review: Amagami SS+ - 9

Not fair, Amagami SS+! How do you expect me to dislike your heroine when you open with a scene like that?!

——

So the Narrator comes back, and coupled with Sae’s incredibly breathy yet high-pitched voiced. But unlike last time, I didn’t entirely hate it. Granted, I was slightly tipsy when I first watched this particular episode; that may have something to do with it. Still, even sober, this episode wasn’t bad. I found that a lot of what annoyed me from the first season is gone. The Narrator is back, but not as much as before. But the biggest change is probably in our heroine. Sae’s voice without the stutter or the shyness is infinitely better than with them. Just in general, her new found assertiveness makes her so much more appealing than in the first season. Now that Sae isn’t shy and the setup of Junichi help “cure” it is gone, everything is so much less aggravating. I’m holding my breath for next week because it looks like we’ll be seeing some recurring “lesson plans”, but for now, I’m actually really enjoying Sae.

I really didn’t expect Miya to be included in as much in this second season. It made sense to have more of her in Ai’s and now Sae’s routes, but she’s been pretty consistent in most of these mini arcs. And all for the better, I think - She’s awesome. In fact, she’s one of the most redeeming qualities about this second season. She balances out Junichi pretty well, as Junichi was in very rare form this week. I’m honestly not sure if he’s supposed to be believable anymore; I’m definitely being trolled by AIC. Beyond the fact that buying lunch for your girlfriend shouldn’t be that difficult, the cafeteria ladies know more about her than Junichi does! I don’t get how you can be with someone with ten months and still not know something about her.

There wasn’t really a plot, per se; Just a bunch of smaller hodgepodge fluff scenes. They had only the slightest bit to do do with the other, but they probably served to show the new dynamic between these two. In that regard, it did really well, but I’m wary of what kind of episode next week will bring. Hopefully it’s not a season one flashback, because that was just way too cringe-inducing to have to experience again.
