Anime Review: Zero no Tsukaima F - 9

That fly has conquered all peaks and valleys of the Elven landscape. Saito’s hands nearly accomplished the same feat on the same day.

The battle of the ZnT Big Three: I’d choose Noto Mamiko over Horie Yui and Kugimiya Rie in a heartbeat. It’d be a harder choice to make only if Siesta wasn’t just a maid and if Louise wasn’t so flat-out predictable (as are most other Kugimiya roles, unfortunately). I’d even consider Lukshana’s seiyuu, Kanemoto Hisako, for that wonderfully endearing voice-de geso. Has this series gotten to such an all-time low that I’ve resorted to just listening to these beautiful voices? Not entirely so. There is a plot, even if a little forced.

While Saito tries to prove his innocence and faithfulness to Louise, his contract with Tifania has greater implications. For one, he can die. No really, he can and I’d be thrilled if JC Staff actually pulls through and kills off the hero of the series. I’d endorse that idea because the level of drama might be able to leave me sadistically grinning—that ZnT actually finishes with a plot induced end rather than the usual cheery theme song that runs through the credits, shows Saito and Louise kissing which somehow leads to more jealousy explosions like all of the first three seasons. Either that or Saito gets a shameless harem end. Seriously, I’d be disappointed if I don’t get either and I’m making it known right now. (Sadly and realistically, I know I won’t get those ends, so I’ll spare myself that hopeful feeling once this gets published.)

The episode is actually supposed to be about Tabitha’s coronation, which is completely misleading given the events throughout. I’m not questioning Tabitha’s, or rather, Queen Charlotte’s looks but she doesn’t give off that regal air. I don’t know, it might have to do something with the glasses. And a lack of bust emotion. The coronation didn’t quite meet expectations and seems hastened, like it doesn’t matter much. Sure, give her one last slumber party and let her be eternally sad without eggs to hatch. And then watch Saito as he’s thrown into the lava pool with his awesomely Void mages doing nothing but look pretty.
