Hello and welcome, to the latest edition of the Weekly Pull List.

As ever, I am joined by Ryley (ryley-stbatman),as we detail the comics which we’ll be picking up this week.

Its business as usual this week, with some stories ending (Batman and Robin, Wolverine), and some just getting started (Avenging Spider-Man, Fantastic Four).

AVENGING SPIDER-MAN #6

Ryley: I don’t usually pick up Avenging Spider-Man, but this month the series starts off the three part event, “Omega Effect”, which is running through this, Daredevil, and Punisher. Readers of Daredevil will be more familiar with the elements of this story than ASM and Punisher readers as it deals with the Omega Drive that Matt Murdock acquired back at the beginning of this current series. Being that the three-part crossover is being written by both Mark Waid and Greg Rucka, with art by Marco Checchetto, this story is sure to be great.

Sam: “The Omega Effect” begins here! Whilst it’s fairly annoying that this title very quickly stopped being the Zeb Wells/Joe Mad book it was promoted as, that doesn’t matter now, as this title crosses over with The Punisher and Daredevil. Story wise this coming out of Daredevil, with ‘ol hornhead currently in possession of the Omega Drive, which #10.1 showed just how powerful that information can be.  Knowing the impetus for this story, and the talent involved with it – this looks very promising.

BATMAN AND ROBIN #8

Ryley: This will be the last issue of Batman and Robin which I’ll be buying monthly because I want to make room on my pull list for the upcoming volume of Batman Incorporated, but that’s not to say this is a bad series at all. In fact, Peter Tomasi has been doing a great job writing the new Dynamic Duo in this new series. This issue will end the first story arc in which Batman and Robin go up against NoBody, who is a character from Bruce’s distant past. This issue is sure to bring an exciting conclusion to this story.

BATWOMAN #8

Ryley: Amy Reeder’s arc on Batwoman continues as we follow the lives of six different characters in vignettes that will all connect into one greater story. What’s coming in Kate Kane’s life now that she’s joined with the DEO?

Sam: Apparently this is the last issue which we’ll be treated to Amy Reeder’s pencils on Batwoman, after it was announced previously that she left the title early due to ‘creative differences’. It’s a real shame too, since her pencils have been nothing short of gorgeous so far. In terms of the story, this continues looking at six intertwining stories, which will collide or join eventually into one story.

DEMON KNIGHTS #8

Ryley: This month we take a little break from the main story to see how Madame Xanadu became both Jason Blood’s and Etrigan’s lover. For whatever reason, I never even thought to wonder how that happened, but I’m more than excited to read the story as this is certainly the most interesting love triangle in comics right now.

Sam: With our heroes needing to recover from the somewhat costly battle of the opening story-arc, this issue explores the history behind how Madame Xandu became Jason Blood/Etrigan’s lover. With guest art from Bernard Chang, this should be a fun little issue.

FANTASTIC FOUR #605

Ryley: Jonathan Hickman finished is F4 epic last month, but we still have about six more months of his high concept stories. This month we’ll be seeing the Four travel one thousand years into the future. What will they find? I don’t know, but I really can’t wait to read it!

Sam: Hickman’s epic story may be over, but he’s not done with the FF yet! Stranded in the distant future, the FF face a startling vision of what’s to come. Presumably it’s not a great vision either, since the solicits state that the FF have to fight to save their future, and return to modern day. Knowing what Hickman had delivered so far, this is sure to be a great little story.

FRANKENSTEIN: AGENT OF S.H.A.D.E. #8

Ryley: After the events of the previous arc, Frankenstein and his Bride must go across Europe to hunt down their monstrous children. This is sure to lead to a lot of crazy action, and some nice interaction between Frankie and his estranged wife. We’ve not seen much about what happened between them in the past, so hopefully this issue will shed some light on the matter.

Sam: More Frankenstein craziness! The rogue Creature Commandos may have been subdued, and the siege of S.H.A.D.E. City defeated, but that was the easy part! The spawn of Frankenstein and his Bride has escaped, and apparently he’s a less than gentle character, and he’s not too pleased about having being imprisoned. Oh, just read the issue already. This will be fantastic.

GREEN LANTERN #8

Ryley: The “Secret of the Indigo Tribe” continues, and reportedly in this issue we’ll learn just why Indigo-1 is so obsessed with the former Green Lantern Abin Sur. As the Indigo Tribe has been the most curious group in the entirety of Johns’ Green Lantern run, it’s rather exciting to finally find out everything about them. All that’s left now? What’s Larfleeze’s Oath?!

Sam: “Secret of the Indigo Tribe” continues here, and it looks like a there will be more Sinestro awesomeness this issue. Seemingly captured by the Indigo Tribe, Hal is once again powerless, and Sinestro at the mercy of the Tribe, who intend to convert him to their cause. I don’t expect that to go too well for them…

Add to that promises of a big reveal this issue, possibly revealing the link between Indigo-1 and Abin Sur, and this issue looks sure to be a great read.

JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #636

Ryley: “The Terrorism Myth” ends here! Will Loki be able to stop Nightmare? Probably, but the exciting part is seeing just how he deals with him in this Sandman-esque tale of Dreams, Nightmares, and Fear Gods.

Sam: In a desperate gambit to save himself, Loki has given Nightmare just what he wants to save himself. And boy oh boy, Damian Hellstrom and Leah aren’t too chuffed with the trickster. Knowing Loki however, he probably has something up his sleeve. Doesn’t he?

PETER PANZERFAUST #3

Ryley: Last issue ramped up the action with plenty of warfare between Peter, the Lost Boys, and the invaders they’re running from. We were left with a rather shocking conclusion which turned a seemingly safe getaway into a matter of life and death, and now we get to see just who made it out alive, and what happens next. Plus, who’s this woman on the cover?

SAGA #2

Ryley: Issue #1 of Brian K Vaughn’s new ongoing series blew me away, and I’ve been highly anticipating it’s return this month. Sci-Fi, Fantasy, TV-Headed robots, and family drama! Saga has it all, and it’s fantastic, and I think any comic fan would do well to pick it up.

SAUCER COUNTRY #2

Ryley: Making a bit more of a subdued debut last month, Paul Cornell’s new ongoing series, Saucer Country, was also pretty impressive. This one is more like a comic for X-Files fans as we mix political intrigue with realistic accounts of Alien Abduction. It’s not a lighthearted series by far, but it’s sure to be one of the more intellectually impressive things coming out of Vertigo’s next herd of new books.

SECRET AVENGERS #25

Ryley: Rick Remender’s first arc on Secret Avengers ends here, and it’s all out war as the Avengers go up against Father’s group of machines. Plus, it’s the first time Venom will be active with the Secret Avengers. Will he be okay out there, because he’s kind of been going through some symbiote withdrawal as of late… we’ll just have to read on to see.

UNCANNY X-MEN #10

Ryley: After a prison-break in the S.W.O.R.D. space-needle, a mysterious, genocidal alien called Unit has come down to earth, and he has some sort of draw towards Hope. Just why does he want the mutant messiah?

Sam: Last issue saw the breakout of some questionable characters from S.W.O.R.D.’s prison, most notable being Unit. With the X-Men and Avengers in action trying to neutralise the rampaging aliens, Hope stands alone against Unit, and things don’t look too great for her right now…

THE UNWRITTEN #36

Ryley: In the aftermath of the “War of the Words” it seems the world just isn’t the same anymore. We’ll get to see the effects of Tommy’s most recent fight and how it effects all of the fictional worlds and characters we’ve met in the past.

WINTER SOLDIER #4

Ryley: I shouldn’t have to say much more than the fact that there’s a gun-toting gorilla on the cover of this issue to get you to read it, but some people just aren’t sold on stuff like that… so I’ll just tell you that Ed Brubaker’s doing some of his best work here in his return to writing Bucky Barnes. It’s an espionage story full of intrigue and it’s just going to lead to more things that are more awesome. Maybe more gorillas with guns, but probably different things… don’t let that discourage your purchase, though.

Sam: This issue promises the return of the machine-gun wielding gorilla. If that doesn’t sell you on this issue, then nothing will. Apart from maybe some Doctor Doom thrown in for good measure and chaos. Oh, and the fact that Brubaker and Guice are doing wonderful things with this series. Seriously, check it out.

WOLVERINE #304

Ryley: Jason Aaron’s run on Wolverine ends here, as he tells one final tale of Logan and Sabretooth going head to head. Hopefully he gives us a proper conclusion to his story before Cullen Bunn takes over next issue. I’ve loved Aaron’s work with Wolverine thus far, so I have high-hopes for his finale.

COLLECTED EDITIONS

BATMAN INCORPORATED DELUXE HC

Ryley: The hardcover collection of Grant Morrison’s most recent Batman story is finally here! Collecting issue #1-8 and the Leviathan Strikes! One-Shot, this volume is the perfect place for readers to catch up on Morrison’s Batman epic before it continues next month with the first issue of a new Batman Incorporated series. There’s plenty of awesomeness to be had in this book, so grab it!

SEVERED HC

Ryley: Scott Snyder’s horror series from Image Comics is finally available in hardcover! If you’ve been enjoying Snyder on Batman, Swamp Thing, American Vampire, or all three (like me) then you might want to grab this book.

THE STRANGE TALENT OF LUTHER STRODE

Ryley: Luther Strode got a fair amount of attention when the miniseries was being released, but I wasn’t among the ones reading it. Now I, and anyone else who didn’t grab it in singles, will be able to check it out! Remember those old ads in comic books that would let wimpy guys beef up so you can beat up the bullies? Well, this series takes a look at a kid who went ahead and tried one of those programs… and it works!
