Manga Review: Fairy Tail - 279

Well it seems Mashima had to make up for seven years worth of missing fanservice…

——

A joyous moment it was when I opened up the pages to the magazine and saw Fairy Tail with a glorious color page or two as well as being of longer lift. Sadly, as I began to read it, I started to get a sinking feeling that this non-combative event for Mira and Jenny, of Blue Pegasus, would turn into the unexpected. Unfortunately it did, when the words “swimsuit contest” appeared!

I, too, had the same reaction Gray and Natsu had; verily, what was going on here? Megane, neko, and even bondage plagued the pages as it just continued on and on. To top it off, they even proposed that the loser appear in their birthday outfit… Just what was Mashima thinking?

As a fan of Fairy Tail, I was a bit disappointed in much of this chapter as that was not what I wanted out of Fairy Tail. I can only hope that this was something that would be confined to one out of every 278 chapters. Fortunately, Eclipse served to remind us that this was an action-adventure manga first and foremost, and made it vastly compelling that the next arc finally brings some much needed developments.
