Itachi and Sasuke continued to fight against Kabuto.
Many pages were dedicated to Itachi just being plain cool and relentlessly withstanding Kabuto’s attacks. Meanwhile, Kabuto fiercely attacked. I chuckled when Itachi reminded Kabuto that it was pointless to attack him, since because he is a part of the Edo Tensei (World Resurrection jutsu) he can’t be defeated.
Kabuto was so caught up in the fighting that he failed to see that Izanami had activated. Kishimoto actually caught me off guard with this as it wasn’t upon my third rereading that I had noticed the subtle change in Itachi’s Sharingan state.
Kabuto was trapped in an endless loop of fighting with Itachi. Initially I thought he was actually physically attacking Itachi over and over, but realized that it was just in his mind. At the end people could see he was standing while Sasuke and Itachi watched. I wondered how long the jutsu could last.
After weeks of waiting for Izanami, even enduring a flashback, we finally saw it. It was less flashy than the other Sharigan jutsu but potent. What is the cost? So far it seems that it was the permanent sealing of an eye. Itachi served his role well, and with Kabuto now just standing there and not dead, he can stay resurrected. Now I can only hope that we go back to Naruto and advance this war.
