Anime Review: Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? Of the Dead - 7

“Ayumu, aren’t you going to fantasize about me today? Don’t you do it all the time?”
She knows!
——
Haruna, the point of fantasizing about a girl is to have dirty thoughts. Am I right or am I right? (How many almost blatant panty shots did you count in this episode?)

In any case, what this episode did was reveal the antagonist of the season, and it couldn’t have been anyone else but little Miss Drunken Fairy. I think if there had to be a villain, he or she would have had some screen time already rather than introducing him or her this late. Even though this series is notorious for being random and downplaying the plot, it wouldn’t flow right if a random big baddie dropped from the sky. Thankfully, there were hints prior to this and it didn’t take away from the usual level of comedy.

This time around, there wasn’t a new Imaginary Eu making cute voiceover cameos. Rather, Haruna’s genius ability to come up with a mana-stealing item backfired and did a whole magic switcheroo with Eu, enabling our favorite necromancer to talk all episode. Hearing the original Eu speak in bunches had to be the highlight, in addition to seeing Haruna get recoil damage whenever she got emotionally charged. Unfortunately, the little mechanism played right into Chris’ hands, but it was played pretty well.

Beyond the chair-launching humor and some inevitable life revelations, a birth of a story was all that was needed. At this point, I don’t know just how evil Chris is or what she intends to do with the mana, but for everyone to fear her must mean that she has many new things on her to-do list. For one, she could make summer even hotter or winter even colder. Or she could make everyone offer their mana if they cannot drink more than her. Or she could make days longer so that Ayumu withers and shrivels up so that Eu has no choice but to leave him. Whatever the plot is, it’s clearly all freakin’ Chris’ fault.
GO Rating: 3/5

Sera, just a bit lower and…
