It’s your time to shine, Mutta!

——

In another unlikely twist from episode seven’s cliffhanger, Mutta’s actions in the diner become misconstrued by the public, but to his benefit. The publicity of his actions and the heroism that was misinterpreted were just the luck Mutta needed to pass the exam and the kind of luck he could not afford to prior to this. Through it all, hilarity ensued as Mutta was just so visibly uncomfortable with all the press coverage and attention he was receiving for his actions when he knows how it all really happened. Apparently Ozzy did too, but regardless, he bent the truth to help Mutta and it’s great to see just how many people are pulling for him to achieve his dream.

Prior to the confirmation of his passing via video message from his parents, it was good to see that the publicity given to him gave him new found confidence in himself. Though the motivation for him to take in the opportunity was thanks to a pair of pretty Americans, his actions following it are what you would come to expect from the lead character. His new found confidence really transformed him into a go-getter type of character as he continues to put out on display the full scope of his ability to memorize details with a simple card game. Simple things like that really help reinforce the idea that he is a competent astronaut to the audience and show that he’s not a total screw up.

Still, news of his passing the second exam wouldn’t be complete without a little message from Itou Serika. As expected, Mutta is still head over heels for her despite small distractions in America. It’s just entertaining to see just how much of a kid Mutta is in his feelings towards Serika to the point where just seeing how they’ll interact with each other next episode is something I’m highly looking forward to. It’ll be interesting to see if Mutta’s new sense of self-esteem will help in his dynamic with her and just how far he can take it. Still, with so many highs in this episode, it does end on a bit of an ominous tone with Mutta discovering a folder filled with letters. How this affects him in the next episode is another point to watch out for.

As for this episode alone, it was another uplifting one with a great payout in seeing Mutta pass the second exam. There’s just one more to go before he can finally achieve his dream.
