During the Shonen Jump Alpha Fan Meet-Up on Saturday at FanimeCon 2012, the editors of the digital magazine announced they will be publishing a new manga named Barrage.

Not many details were given about the plot of the manga, only that it was a “typical shonen battle manga” set in space. The protagonist’s weapon of choice is an electric spear and he fights against aliens in true heroic fashion. 

What makes this announcement so different and exciting is that VIZ will be digitally publishing Barrage near simultaneously with the current chapter of Barrage appearing in Shonen Jump Alpha within the same week as the original publishing in Japan. For those of you who know about the current purposeful lag between chapters, this is a huge step forward for digital manga.
