Anime Review: Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? of the Dead - 9

All I’m expecting is a happy end. Everyone in the series seems to be heading in that general happy end direction.

——

I think it’s safe to assume that there won’t be any epic battles to come, based on how quietly things seemed to have resolved in this episode. So Chris has a rival in Nene (Koshimizu Ami), but they don’t seem to be the least bit interested in fighting. In fact, I wouldn’t mind if the finale sorted any of the remaining mess with a bikini contest, and I’m looking forward to see something like a Haruna vs Eu, a Sarasvati vs Taeko and Nene vs Seraphim according to ranks. Forgive me, I’m freshly off the ecchi anime list I put up recently so I’m primed to become some dark lecher lord of anime girls… again.

On an entertainment level, it was damped down in favor of more sentimental effects, with Sarasvati taking the lead role on one end while Nene and Eu teamed up on the other.

Gotta say though, the feel-good stuff hit a personal weak spot. I’ve always rooted for Eu and her character, and although all the guest voices are always welcome on behalf of Ayumu’s fantasies, it’s just good enough for me that we get to know Eu and her background more. As a bit of an enigmatic necromancer, it’s nice to get any info on her profile and I think bringing in Nene as a minor character this late into the game has shown plenty of benefits. If not to just stare at her explosive body or listen to her “Did ya cut your hair?” remark, then to show that she had connections to Eu in the past, one that inspired a manga for a should’ve-would’ve-could’ve scenario in the present.

It did feel somewhat strange that Sarasvati came out to be more direct with Ayumu but I’ll take that as a slight warning flag for the things to come in the finale. I’m not expecting anything crazy and I think it’s safe to anticipate nothing overly dramatic. I do wonder how Haruna will get her powers back, although she seems pretty darn content just rolling around making funny faces and being flattered. Still, it would be ideal to get some decent closure on the series instead of resorting to OVAs. Unless, of course, there are plans for a third season some time down the line…

GO Rating: 3.5/5

I think this imaginary Eu will be one of my favorites. Enter Horie Yui
