The role in question is said to be similar to the one held by Ronny Cox in the original film. Laurie would be playing the sarcastic C.E.O of Omnicopr, the mega corporation behind the creation of the title character for its own financial gain.
Laurie would be joining a cast that includes Joel Kinnamen (The Killing), Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises), Abbie Cornish (Sucker Punch) and Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers) and is set to be directed by Jose Padihla (Elite Squad).
Though he’s had quite the successful career on television thanks to House M.D.—to which he earned 7 Emmy nomimations—his feature film portfolio has been mostly filled with children’s films, highlighted by films like last year’s Hop, the Stuart Little films as well as Disney’s live-action 101 Dalmatians. Should Laurie officially sign on for Robocop, this would be his highest profile feature length film to date.
