Manga Review: Kimi ni Todoke - 69

You took the words right out of my mouth Ayane.
——
The Christmas party continues in this chapter, and although some events have been resolved, I still feel as if the major action of this night is yet to happen. Chizuru and Ryu give each other presents outside and spend a little time together, which is huge progress for Chizuru after she found out the Ryu liked her. Ayane mentions that they should just date, which I agree with. They are perfect together. The rest of the chapter wasn’t too eventful, and it was mostly Sawako and Kento worrying about Ayane and Sawako asking Pin for advice over her relationship with Kazehaya. The chapter ended with Sawako considering telling Kazehaya the truth and Kento having a sudden meeting with Mogi.
This chapter was a bit slow, and although I appreciated the cute moments between Chizuru and Ryu, I was otherwise frustrated by the lack of plot movement. Sawako continues to make me mad in that she doesn’t realize that her relationship needs communication. Even though Pin told her so in this chapter, she still feels like she is doing something wrong for some reason. I really want her to just go ahead and talk to Kazehaya because they ARE LITERALLY FIGHTING ABOUT NOTHING. Hopefully something significant actually happens in the next chapter between the two.

I also hope that Kento can get through to Ayane. She has always been one of the most interesting characters in the series and I hate to see her so down on herself all the time. I believe that she could be really happy if she opened herself up, and maybe Chizuru and Sawako can help her if they aren’t too focused on their own problems. I hope nothing bad comes out of the meeting between Kento and Mogi because Mogi seemed like kind of a jerk and I don’t want him to ruin anything. There has been a lot of buildup in this party so hopefully something exciting will happen soon.
I’m looking forward to the possibility of more action in the next chapter as well as seeing how people change after the events of the Christmas party. I also just really want to see what Kento brought in his smashed present. Hopefully Kazehaya and Sawako will learn to communicate, sooner rather than later. Otherwise this manga will just keep repeating the same problems over and over. I’d love to see some relationship growth.
