Anime Review: Mobile Suit Gundam AGE - 36

Flit and the AGE-1 enter the fray once more.

——

Building on the cliffhanger of episode thirty-five, the Gundam wasn’t destroyed by Zanald’s massive mobile suit Zamdrag. Instead, he bluffed his attack, but is momentarily pushed back by the arrival of Flit in the AGE-1. The ensuing battle is an interesting one of sorts, due to the rivalry relationship between Zeheart and Zanald. Though both fight for Lord Ezelcant, it’s worth noting that there is a hierarchy within the Vagan military where commanders aim to gain favour over the success of a mission. Though Zeheart wasn’t the one to capture the Gundam upon Kio’s mistake to return the battlefield, he has other priorities in mind than petty squabbles with Zanald. Zanald’s ambition itself should prove to be his own undoing somewhere down the line.

With Kio being captured early on in the episode, tensions between Flit and the crew of the Diva come to a boiling point due to the ship’s inability to chase after Kio and the Gundam. Flit’s objectiveness completely erodes with the loss of his grandson and the one to bear the brunt of his tirade was Captain Einus, despite her making the right decision to not expose the ship to danger in the slim hopes of preventing Kio’s capture. Seric comes to her aid, following Flit’s outburst, and reassures her she’s made the right decision, and this can only mean for me that a relationship could be brewing between the two. Time will only tell, but in Einus’ defiance of Flit’s orders, we get to see her character grow further in distancing herself from relying on Flit and becoming a captain fit enough to serve the Diva and her crew.

With the Diva lacking proper supplies and man power to mount a rescue, it’s up to Asemu to rescue his son as he confronts his father for the first time since disappearing twelve years ago. Obviously, Flit is disappointed with the decision his son has made as he has yet to fully understand why Asemu chose the path he is on now, but he reluctantly agrees to let Asemu be the one to rescue Kio. Now all three members of the Asuno family will be gathered together soon and it’ll be interesting to see them fighting side by side with their respective Gundams. The rescue for Kio begins next episode.

GO Rating: 3/5

Stupid, stupid Kio.
