The Weekly Pull List: 6/27/12

It seems to be my turn to put together our Weekly Pull List this week, so hello everyone once again. I think I’m getting the hang of this, so hopefully everything will go off without a hitch!
I am joined by my fellow comic contributors, Sam (sjhawkins) and Ryley (ryley-stbatman), and we will be going through the week’s releases and picking out the five that we are most looking forward to.
It’s a busy week as usual, with reality hopping Spider-Men, a planet under siege in Green Lantern: New Guardians, and there’s even time for a visit to an alternate dimension in Angel and Faith. So hold onto your seats, it’s going to be a bumpy ride!

CHRIS’S PICKS

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #688
In the aftermath of Ends of the Earth, Peter has returned to Horizon Labs. But there’s some unfinished business to attend to, in the form of Morbius the Living Vampire, and the Lizard! You’d think there was a film out with the Lizard in, or something. No Turning Back begins here!

ANGEL AND FAITH #11
Angel and Faith must be getting sick of uninvited guests. Next on their list is Willow, who has left San Francisco to ask for their help. She plans to return magic to the world, and needs their help to do it. Next stop, Quartoth! Remember, that untold hell dimension that Angel’s son Connor grew up in? That he’d never want to go back to? Well, guess who’s along for the ride! Guest stars galore as Family Reunion kicks off!

GREEN LANTERN: NEW GUARDIANS #10
The Reach have invaded Odym, and only Saint Walker and the Blue Lanterns can stand against them to save the Blue Lantern Central Power Battery. Luckily, Kyle and the other New Guardians are on-hand to help out - if they arrive in time, that is. With the Lantern Corps falling all around them, will the Blue Lanterns also face annihilation? And what does all of this have to do with Larfleeze?

I, VAMPIRE #10
Keeping an entire army of vampires at bay is going to be very difficult at the best of times, and Andrew’s new powers will be stretched to their limit to do so. And it looks like his old friends the Van Helsings are coming for a visit. One that ends with a pointy stick in Andrew’s heart!

JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK #10
With the map to the Books of Magic in their possession, the Justice League Dark are set to find some of the most important magical artefacts in the DC Universe. But first, they’re setting up shop in the House of Mystery, and need to evict its current tenants, the Demons Three!

SAM’S PICKS

AQUAMAN #10
“The Others” continues! With Aquaman’s dark secret revealed by Shin, how will Mera respond? Especially when there’s more about his past which she doesn’t know! There’s also the small matter of Black Manta and Aquaman squaring off, as the rest of the Others assemble to take on their hunter! This is shaping up to be a terrific story, with Johns doing a fine job of slowing revealing Arthur’s secret history before he became the noble hero we known today.

THE FLASH #10
Barry just can’t catch a break at the moment! After dealing with Captain Cold, he has been stranded in the Speed Force where he faced Turbine, before crashing into Gorilla City, where Grodd was less than pleased to make his acquaintance. Next up – a visit to Guatemala, as the Weather Wizard gets introduced to the New 52! This series has been one heck of ride since #1, and I expect this to be another fantastic issue, both in terms of story and the superb art.

GREEN LANTERN: NEW GUARDIANS #10
Part two of “The Fall of the Blue Lanterns”! After going their separate ways, the New Guardians reunite, in an attempt to help Saint Walker defend Odym from the onslaught of the Reach! With all the Corps currently going through torrid times, can the New Guardians prevent the downfall of the Blue Lanterns? Only one way to find out, and that’s by picking this up!

JUSTICE LEAGUE #10
Introducing the Justice League’s new worst enemy – David Graves! What transformed David from the Justice League’s greatest admirer to their worst nightmare – and how does he plan on getting his revenge? With Steve Trevor at his mercy, it seems that everything is going to plan for this new villain, and I’m intrigued as to just what his next move is. This issue also sees the continuation of the “Shazam” back-up, which introduced a certain Doctor Sivana last time…

SPIDER-MEN #2
I wasn’t going to pick this mini-series up, but after all the hype and good reviews #1 was getting, I caved, and I’m glad I did. With Peter disorientated after his transportation to the Ultimate Universe, he has finally bumped into Miles, for a meeting which has shocked them both. What happens next? I can’t wait to find out, and nor should you! With art by Sara Pichelli, this is sure to be a great read, and a gorgeous looking one too.

RYLEY’S PICKS

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #688
Right in time for the new Amazing Spider-Man film we have a story pitting Spidey not only against The Lizard, but also against Morbius, the Living Vampire! I’m a big fan of The Lizard as a character, and I’ve been curious to see what’d happen with him next after the events of both “Shed” and “Origin of the Species”, and I’ve also been excited to see the point when Morbius’ role in the series would develop into a threat to Peter.

AMERICAN VAMPIRE #28
Snyder’s ongoing Vertigo title has always been great, but it’s really exciting when he puts out his bigger “summer blockbuster” arcs, like last years “Ghost War”. This year it’s “The Blacklist”, a story set in Hollywood during The Red Scare, that’s sure to be a thriller. Especially since Skinner Sweet’s back on the scene.
BATMAN INCORPORATED #2
This month Morrison delivers an issue focusing on Talia’s past, and we’ll probably look further into her role as the leader of Leviathan and why she’s standing against Bruce and Batman Incorporated. I’ve got a weak spot for Morrison and his Batman run, so I’ll always be on my toes for the next instalment of his series.

JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK #10
I was really pleased last month with Jeff Lemire’s debut issue on this series, so I’m looking forward to further instalments making this one of my favorite titles at DC. If you want to see some great handling of John Constantine and the rest of his ‘League then pick this one up!

X-MEN #31
I enjoyed the first issue in Brian Woods’ new run on this series, but I’m really looking forward to seeing more of how this title will pan out under this new tutelage. I have a good feeling that this title is going to go down as one of the great X-Men runs, and hopefully I’m right!
RYLEY IS ALSO PICKING UP….
- AQUAMAN #10
- THE FLASH #10
- I, VAMPIRE #10
- INCREDIBLE HULK #10

- SPACEMAN #7
- WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #12
