The Weekly Pull List: 07/04/12

Howdy once again folks, and welcome to the latest edition of the Weekly Pull List!
This week I am joined by fellow comics contributors Chris (littleyellowboxes) and Ryley (ryley-stbatman), as we detail our five personal top picks from this week’s comic releases, whilst also sharing what else is on our Pull Lists.
Once again we are spoiled for choice, with some real good comics hitting the stands. The Lizard continues to plague our favorite wall-crawler in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man, Alan Scott embraces his destiny as Earth’s protector in Earth 2, and then there’s the small matter of Cyclops proclaiming “No More Avengers” in Avengers vs. X-Men…
Read on to see what we picked!

CHRIS’S PICKS

ANIMAL MAN #11
In the final part of “Extinction is Forever”, it’s Buddy versus Buddy as the Avatars of the Red restore our hero to the mortal plane where he must battle the Hunter that has possessed his body and captured his son Cliff. Expect crazy visuals, gross looking monsters, and all out action, as usual.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #689
Morbius and Spider-Man have been successful in their attempt to transform the Lizard back into Curt Connors. What they don’t realize is that Connors doesn’t exist anymore, and now the Lizard is trapped in a human body, and will do anything to get out! “No Turning Back” continues here!

AVENGERS VS. X-MEN #7
No More Avengers. This is the mandate that Cyclops and the rest of the Phoenix Five are now trying to enforce. With their new cosmic powers and all the X-Men at their back, it seems that the Avengers are definitely on the losing side - except for their wildcard, and the only person able to damage the Avengers, the Scarlet Witch! After a lacklustre start, issue 6 really kicked this event into high gear, and I can’t wait to see where we go now.

EARTH 2 #3
Earth-2 has a Flash. It also has two Mister Terrifics. Now it’s time to meet its Green Lantern. Alan Scott gains the power of the Green Flame this issue, and we’ll also see some more of the Earth-2 Hawkgirl as we edge closer to a full blown Justice Society of America.

UNCANNY X-MEN #15
Whilst the Phoenix Five are away, Sinister will play. The gauntlet has been thrown down, and Sinister is waiting for the newly cosmic powered X-Men to attack his stronghold of Sinister London. And back on Utopia, it seems there’s some unrest in the X-Men camp as Psylocke and Magneto take a long look at their leaders. Plus, UNIT continues to manipulate Danger from the shadows. This new shift of direction seems to have revitalized the Uncanny X-Men tie-ins to AvX, and that can only be a good thing.

RYLEY’S PICKS

ANIMAL MAN #11 (and SWAMP THING #11, which has been delayed until next week according to DC Comics and Comiclist)
This is it, the final issues of each series before they cross over. Over in Animal Man we see Buddy taking on a new body so he can return to the living world to stop an Rot-possessed version of himself from destroying his family. Over in Swamp Thing we’ve got the original evil, Anton Arcane, taking on his daughter, Abby, and Alec as one of The Rot’s greatest allies. It’s a big month for both series, and for fans who have been following them both for the past year.

EARTH 2 #3
I’m really excited to get my hands on this one mostly because we get to see the new origin of Alan Scott as a Green Lantern. I have a feeling it’ll be quite the exciting issue, and I’m also sure we’ll be introduced to some other familiar faces for this new super team.

SECRET WARRIORS OMNIBUS
As one of Jonathan Hickman’s first ongoing titles at Marvel, Secret Warriors was always a fantastic book, and now fans can own it all in this one goliath hardcover volume. Follow Nick Fury and his Secret Warriors as they wage a secret war against the forces of Hydra, complete with spies, espionage, and double (and triple) crossing team members galore. I’m looking forward to reading through the series in its entirety again, and anyone who has yet to have read it should definitely pick this up.

SWEET TOOTH #35
Jeff Lemire’s ongoing Vertigo title has been an emotional rollercoaster from issue #1, and here it finally begins its final arc. I can’t say much on what’s fixing to happen, but I’m sure it won’t be nice for a few of the characters… what few we have left. Gus and Jeppard are coming to the end of their epic journey and I’m excited to see how it plays out to the end.

SAM’S PICKS

2000 AD PROG 1790
After hopping on this comic with the return of the Dark Judges in Prog 1781, I’ve become captivated by discovering just what happens next in Judge Dredd’s story, with the “Day of Chaos” decimating Mega-City One.
This Prog starts the aftermath of that story, but it isn’t all about Dredd of course! Also featured are the conclusion to Durham Red’s first mission as a Strontium Bitch, Nikolai Dante’s story gets ever nearer to its end, and there are still two other awesome strips running at the moment - 1947 and The Grievous Journey of Ichabod Azrael. All in all, this looks set to be packed full of great stuff.

ACTION COMICS #11
I’m really enjoying Morrison’s Action Comics at the moment. Last issued introduced Nimrod the Hunter, who had deduced Clark’s secret identity. Unfortunately for Clark, for Superman to survive, he had to die! Will Superman find a way to restore his civilian life, or will he create a new identity? Only one way to find out, and that’s by picking up this issue!

ANIMAL MAN #11
It seems that whenever the next issue of Animal Man comes round, I can’t help but include it in my picks. This series shows no signs of a lapse in the high quality it set with #1, with each issue continuing to role out the superheroic fantastical horror. With a Hunter having assumed Buddy’s flesh to kidnap his son, Cliff, Buddy is going to have to go to some extreme measures to return to the mortal plane and protect his family. “Extinction Is Forever” ends here!

AVENGERS VS. X-MEN #7
“No More Avengers”. A world where mutants can finally be free and equal, away from mankind’s ignorance is what the leader of the Phoenix Five has always desired, and Cyclops believes that this can only be achieved if the Avengers are wiped out from the equation! And what’s more, is that he has the power to do it! Things are hotting up folks - don’t miss out.

UNCANNY X-MEN #15
This comic has found its form again, after last issue which showed just what Mr Sinister has been up to since he battled the Uncanny X-Men in the comic’s opening storyline. And with all he has prepared for Cylcops and the Phoenix Force, wouldn’t it be a waste if Scott and his team didn’t pay Sinister a visit? Expect the fireworks to fly when the Phoenix Five, X-Men and Sinister collide!
