The Weekly Pull List: 07/11/12

Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the Weekly Pull List!

I am glad to be joined by fellow comics contributors, Chris (littleyellowboxes) and Ryley (ryley-stbatman), as we highlight our five top picks from this week’s comics, as well as detailing what other titles we will be picking up.

Its another massive week, with there being some big milestones, events and stories coming out. The Walking Dead is hitting #100, Transformers are picking up where they left off 21 years ago in The Transformers: Regeneration One #81, and then there’s the small matter of the conclusion of “Night of the Owls” in the pages of Batman

Read on to see what we picked!

CHRIS’S PICKS

BATMAN #11

A years worth of Batman issues culminates in this final issue of the Court of Owls storyline. As Bruce Wayne faces off against his brother, Thomas Wayne Jr., the fate of Gotham lies in the balance. Plus, discover Thomas’ secret origin as the Fall of the House of Wayne back-up concludes!

DARK AVENGERS #177

In the past, the Thunderbolts face off against Doctor Doom for control of their time travelling tower. In the present, the Dark Avengers battle the Sultan Magus in the deserts of Sharzhad. Two teams, two megalomaniacal dictators, one awesome comic book.

JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY: THE TERRORISM MYTH HC
Collects: Journey Into Mystery (1952) #632-636

First, it’s Christmas, and Loki has some unwanted presents he needs to get rid of. Anyone want a hellhound? And then, Loki and Leah will need all the help they can get when Nightmare begins harnessing the leftover Fear energy left by the Serpent, and Daimon Hellstrom’s on hand to help. But which side is Loki really playing on? Featuring one of the most inventive conclusions ever, this collection is not to be missed.

SCARLET SPIDER #7

The Second Master begins as Kaine finds himself defending corrupt oil corporation Roxxon, and soon runs afoul of Texas’ Initiative team, the Rangers. New art team Khoi Pham and Tom Palmer join the team with the opening part of this new three part arc.

VENOM #20

The Savage Six continue their onslaught on Flash’s family, with both Betty Brant and Flash’s mother in their clutches. Venom rushes to their aid, but must first withstand the combined might of all six of his greatest villains. RYLEY’S PICKS

BATMAN #11

After the big twist at the end of issue #10 which brought back a long lost character from Batman’s past (both story-wise and in publishing), I’ve been strongly anticipating seeing how Scott Snyder plans to bring the “Night of the Owls” event to a conclusion. I’m sure it’ll be exciting as always, but I’m pretty sure it’ll also bring about major repercussions for Batman and his family as we go forth.

PETER PANZERFAUST #5

This issue was originally solicited to be the finale of the series, but last month it was revealed that the mini had been extended to an ongoing! It’s bad for my wallet, but it’s great because this series is quite frankly fantastic. It’s an amazingly imaginative retelling of the Peter Pan story set during World War II, and if that right there isn’t enough to sell you on it then just hold on until next month when the first collection hits the shelves!

UNCANNY X-FORCE #27

I’m always excited when it’s time for a new UXF issue to hit the shelves, especially so when the storyline is as good as it is presently. With the X-Force falling apart at the seams and the oncoming threat of a new, and vastly more dangerous version of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants looming over everything I can’t help but to think that an unhappy end may be nigh for everyone’s favorite black ops mutant team.

THE WALKING DEAD #100

It’s very rare for an indie book to make it past #100 issues, and with that said any time this rare feat does happen it’s definitely cause for celebration. As for the story, the action is promised to ramp up in this anniversary issue as the crew is about to face off against what I can only label as their most dangerous threat yet, and knowing this book it means we’ll be seeing the last pages for some more characters. The question is… who will die this time?

WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #13

While the rest of the Marvel Universe is dealing with all the happenings of Avengers Vs. X-Men, what with the Phoenix Five retooling the world into a modern Utopia, the Jean Grey School still has its own problems to worry about. This week? It’s a Shi’Ar invasion as Kid Gladiator’s father comes down to Earth to kick in some heads as he tries to protect his son during all this uproar dealing with the Phoenix. But who’s head is he going to be kicking in? Meanwhile, we also get some secret history of Warbird, so this issue’s going to be jam-packed with awesome material from Jason Aaron and Nick Bradshaw.

SAM’S PICKS

BATMAN #11

I’m not entirely sure what I can say about this comic. Everyone has been talking about the reveal in #10, where the real identity of Lincoln March was finally revealed - Thomas Wayne Jr.! Batman’s war against the Court of Owls ends here, with brother vs. brother! Knowing what Snyder and Capullo have delivered so far on Batman, this is set to be another unmissable issue.

CAPTAIN AMERICA #14

Captain America is about to come face-to-face with his old friend - the new Scourge! With the new Hydra’s manipulations spreading across S.H.I.E.L.D., Cap must first survive the onslaught of Scourge, who has been convinced that Cap is a traitor to his country who must be taken out! The next chapter of “Shock to the System” is here!

FRANKENSTEIN: AGENT OF S.H.A.D.E. #11

“Son of Satan’s Ring” continues here! Last issue didn’t end too well for Frank, with him plummeting towards what seemed to be oblivion. Turns out its not oblivion he’s headed for - but the Leviathan! Frank has taken on some strange beasts so far this series, and Matt Kindt isn’t letting him have things easy in his story-arc either!

SWAMP THING #11

Delayed last week, this issue is the second part of none other than Anton Arcane’s return. Snyder has done some wonderful things with Swamp Thing, and I expect this to be another top notch issue, as Anton Arcane’s secret history with the Rot is revealed! “Rotworld” gets ever closer!

TRANSFORMERS: REGENERATION ONE #81

After ending 21 years ago, the original Transformers comic returns! IDW are picking up where Marvel left off, with the same creative team of Furman and Wildman returning to the fan-favorite comic.

Since the original series ended, Cybertron has enjoyed a period of peace and development.  But can this peace last with memories of the Great War still fresh in everyone’s minds? Probably not. New and old fans of Transformers should definitely give this a look. Oh, and check out Furman’s original run on the 1984 series!

SAM IS ALSO PICKING UP…

- 2000 AD PROG 1791

- AVENGING SPIDER-MAN #9

- DEMON KNIGHTS #11

- SPIDER-MEN #3

- WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #13
