Akira Toriyama said that this upcoming film is the first time he has been so deeply involved in the production of an anime, in this case as early as the screenwriting process. He added that the film will have the atmosphere of the original series, while adding in some “small amounts of modern flavor.”
In addition, the film will be directed by Masahiro Hosoda (Dragon Ball Z episode director, Nangoku Shounen Papuwa-kun) at Toei and written by Yusuke Watanabe (live-action 20th Century Boys trilogy, Gantz, Blood#mce_temp_url#y Monday, Future Diary), with Tadayoshi Yamamuro (Dragon Ball Movie 4: The Path to Power, Beet the Vandel Buster) acting as the lead animation director.
Scheduled for a March 30, 2013 release date, it’s unclear as to when the film will take place story-wise, but many believe that it will either be during or after the Buu Saga.
