Right, sure. Of course Haru would mix up the bathrooms by “accident”. All according to plan, wasn’t it, ya perv.
Eh. I don’t know what’s with me - everything is moving a tad too slow for my tastes. The action is coming steadily nearer and it’s tantalizingly close in next week’s episode, but I still feel like a five year old. I want my action now, damn it. Taking a step back and shelving my own personal opinions though, this episode was absolutely fine. In fact, the build up of having the douchebaggery of Nomi end the episode was debatably the best cliffhanger in the series thus far. I know it got me pumped to see how Silver Crow is going to beat the ever loving crap out of the guy. And there were some things that needed to be explained, like what Physical Burst was. So I can see why the production team behind Accel World decided to take their time here. However, none of this makes me any less impatient for next week’s episode. Beat the crap out him, Haru!
The one thing I didn’t like and was a bit skeptical about was Nomi as a character. Being a vindictive person by nature, I relished the opportunity to actively hate someone in this show. But the more rational part of me questions whether Nomi was a bit too easy to hate. He was certainly sociopathic and arrogant enough to antagonize, but that’s really all there is to him. He’s doesn’t really have a personal goal, no motives, no reason for doing anything he’s doing other than what seems to be his selfish pleasure. I’m worried that Nomi will just become a husk of a character for us to loathe on sight, simply because it’s easy to write a character like that. It’s certainly a possibility that his character will be fleshed out as we see more of him like with Taku, but Taku’s introduction wasn’t really done justice compared to the manga. I have a hunch that Nomi will be given the same treatment and all we’ll get is a quick cliff note version of his story.
I’m cautiously optimistic about this second half of Accel World. Promising so far, but then other than Nomi being pretty flat, there hasn’t been an opportunity to mess up yet. Hopefully it doesn’t disappoint.
