The Weekly Pull List: 07/25/12

Greetings, and welcome to the latest edition of the Weekly Pull List!
As usual on this segment, I am delighted to be joined by fellow comics contributors Chris (littleyellowboxes) and Ryley (ryley-stbatman), as we each detail our top five picks out this week’s comic releases.
National Comics debuts this week, whilst the Black Hand’s revenge finally begins as Green Lantern #11 finally hits shelves after a short delay. Things are also ticking over nicely in Green Lantern: New Guardians #11 and Venom #21, as both titles reach their arc conclusions!
Note: Due to the terrible shooting in Aurora, Colorado, last Friday, Batman Inc #3 has been delayed a month until August 22, in light that some of the content “may be perceived as insensitive in light of recent events.”

CHRIS’S PICKS

ANGEL AND FAITH #12
Quar’Toth, the holiday destination literally from Hell. Sounds like the best place to take Willow and Connor. So of course, Angel and Faith do just that! Now they all have their missions, but will they all be able to make it back to our dimension unscathed?

DARK AVENGERS #178
In an alternate timeline, the Thunderbolts find themselves adrift once again, in a wasteland of a world run with the iron hand of…Luke Cage?! And in the present day, the Dark Avengers attempt to continue their infiltration of Sharzhad. The Sultan Magus has other ideas however, and that spells trouble, no matter what timeline it is!

GREEN LANTERN #11
In the wake of their battle with the Indigo Tribe, Sinestro and Hal have a new problem on their plate, in the form of a very old foe. The instigator of the Blackest Night stands free from his Indigo Lantern Ring, and now Black Hand is out for revenge. And the whole universe better beware…

GREEN LANTERN: NEW GUARDIANS #11
Odym has fallen, and Saint Walker knows who is to blame for it. The showdown that we’ve been building to since the first issue of this series is finally here, as all of the New Guardians attack the one that brought them together - Larfleeze! Plus, the Ring Thief revealed!

VENOM #21
“Savage Six” reaches its brutal finale, as Venom takes the battle to the remaining members, with Betty Brant’s life in the balance. With the Crime Master revealed as Betty’s long-dead brother Bennett, it’s up to Flash to fight through Megatak, Toxin, and Jack O’Lantern to get to them before their family reunion becomes a funeral!

RYLEY’S PICKS

CAPTAIN AMERICA #15
The final arc of Ed Brubaker’s run on Captain America begins here! He’s pitted Cap against all of his major enemies, and even his long lost best friend, and then he killed him and had him replaced with said friend, and then final brought him back under the shield. Now everything that he’s fought against in the past few years is coming together and it’s sure to be one of the most action-packed Cap stories ever. Fans of Brubaker’s run will not want to miss this.

GREEN LANTERN #11
In my opinion this Green Lantern series has gotten better and better with each issue, and I expect this one to be full of awesomeness as it brings back one of my favorite villains into the fray. Since Blackest Night ended Black Hand has been in the clutches of the Indigo Lanterns, but he is no longer possessed by the Indigo light, and now he’s out to exact his revenge on Hal Jordan!

SECRET AVENGERS #11
After the three-part AvX tie-in it’s time for Rick Remender to take Secret Avengers back to the story he started weaving when he started. It’s the Secret Avengers VS the Masters of Evil, and it’s about to get all kinds of awesome in here.

UNCANNY X-FORCE #28
As always, Uncanny X-Force is in my picks, but this week it’s because of the major developments we saw come out of last issue. The new Brotherhood of Evil Mutants has been assembled and their plans are in play. Things are also about to get crazy for X-Force as they’ll be traveling to a dismal future.

THE UNDERWATER WELDER TP
Jeff Lemire’s latest original graphic novel goes on the stands today, and obviously it’s something you won’t want to miss! Not only is it from the acclaimed writer both in story and art, but early reviews have been giving it all sorts of praise. I’ve preordered my copy already, and I think any fan of anything Lemire has done should do the same. Especially if you loved his Essex County trilogy.

SAM’S PICKS

AQUAMAN #11
Aquaman’s past comes back to haunt him! “The Others” continues this month, as we delve even deeper into Aquaman’s mysterious past with this seemingly ragtag bunch of individuals. Black Manta has been targeting the Others, attempting to retrieve the strange ancient golden artifacts which they all possess, even killing the Seer in the process. And now he’s popped by to pay Shin and Mera a visit…

THE FLASH #11
Our tour around the Rogues of the New 52 continues! This month we meet Heat Wave, who seems to have received a power upgrade similar to Captain Cold. However, he doesn’t seem too happy with it, especially considering the impact it has had on his body! I’m really interested in seeing just what Manapul and Buccellato do with Heat Wave, as the build up to the Rogues continues.

GREEN LANTERN #11
Hal may have prevented the Indigo Tribe from disbanding, as well as freed Sinestro into his custody, but there is still the wee problem of a newly reborn (or should that be redead?) Black Hand on the loose! After seeing his desires thwarted in Blackest Night, I doubt he has anything nice planned for Hal either…

GREEN LANTERN: NEW GUARDIANS #11
Larfleeze vs. the New Guardians! Do I have to say anything else to tempt you with this issue? As the New Guardians finally confront Agent Orange, the truth behind the incident which sparked this series is finally revealed. This should be a fun filled issue, full of awesomeness, and hopefully some answers.

WINTER SOLDIER #8
Bucky’s mission against the last sleeper agent was already personal – but now even more so! With the Black Widow captured and seemingly brainwashed, Bucky now faces the question of whether pursuing Nokonov, or attempting to save Natasha. This has been an excellent series from the get go, and I expect this issue to deliver the goods once more.

- AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #690
- CAPTAIN AMERICA #15
