In an odd move, Marvel has announced the cancellation of the first issue (and presumable the subsequent issues) of upcoming mini-series Thanos: Son of Titan.

The five-issue mini-series was meant to be written by Joe Keatinge with art by Rich Elson, detailing the origins of Thanos, the Mad Titan famous for acquiring the all-powerful Infinity Gauntlet.

Given Thanos’ current high profile after his appearance in the post-credits scene of The Avengers, as well as currently starring as the villain in Brian Bendis and Mark Bagley’s Avengers Assemble comic series, cancelling a book for such a high profile character seems strange.

There is no word on a resolicitation as of yet.
