Anime Review: Eureka Seven AO - 15

I’m sorry, Dave. I’m afraid I can’t do that.

Well, this episode was a bit of a relief for me. One the one hand, it didn’t make my head hurt, and on the other, it seems we are finally getting the full picture. It turns out that the Secrets really are here to destroy the Scab Coral (I’m going to continue to call it this, as that makes way more sense, and is actually in line with the pronunciation as well as the way it’s been written in the show proper) and any other things foreign to this world. We know from the last episode (and the previous series) that the Coralians come from outer space. This also explains why they go after the Nirvash, as it’s not exactly from this world either. The biggest reveal comes in the form of why the Quartz has been collected and stored within the space station… but I kind of found that to be a let down. I mean, it was totally obvious, and I don’t get why this is a surprise to anyone.

Ao is losing sleep over what his mom told him and it’s seriously effecting everything he does. Of course, that’s not the only thing plaguing him with the whole Naru incident. Things in his life are totally out of hand and I like the fact that he’s showing realistic reactions to it all. I also like the fact that he got shot down again as I was getting tired of him doing everything. While on the subject of things that annoy me, his reasoning for pushing himself harder “to become stronger” is a definite pet peeve of mine. Every shounen hero always has this goal, and for the same reasons.

Ao aside, I’m really digging the character interactions as things have been evolving and the changes that have come into play in terms of how they all act. There is some definite growth going on, but it’s generally in a subtle way outside of Naru’s sudden 180. I’m a big fan of anime that have characters that evolve over the course of the events they endure as it makes them feel that much more tangible.

As I have stated before, something big is coming and it might just knock over everything from the core up that has built this world in which Ao and the other’s live. Sides are going to shift and converge and there is no telling who will be on which at this point. I’m expecting to get a lot more incite into Truth and Naru both as well as the Secrets shortly before things come crashing down, or possibly during.
