The Weekly Pull List: 08/01/12

Hello there, and welcome to the latest edition of the Weekly Pull List!

Every week I team up with fellow comics contributors, Chris (littleyellowboxes) and Ryley (ryley-stbatman), to go through the week’s releases and spotlight our five most anticipated comics from our Pull Lists.

And well, it is a week packed with some exciting stuff. Avengers Vs. X-Men continues, Hawkeye #1 debuts, and then there is the small matter of the start of “Rotworld” in Animal Man and Swamp Thing…

Read on to see what we picked!

CHRIS’S PICKS

ANIMAL MAN #12 & SWAMP THING #12

“Rotworld” begins here as Buddy and his family finally meet up with Alec Holland and Abby Arcane. It’s time to take the battle to the Rot, and it all begins here! Part two of the prologue takes place in Swamp Thing #12, also out this week! And just look at those gorgeous combined covers!

AVENGERS ACADEMY #34

The Academy has closed, and now the students have nowhere to turn. Enter Jeremy Briggs once again; the Alchemist is here to try and win them over to his side once and for all, and he’ll stop at nothing to do it. It’s the toughest test yet for the seminal class of the Avengers Academy, as their Final Exam begins!

AVENGERS VS. X-MEN #9

The Avengers are falling one by one, and despite now knowing that the Phoenix Force can be defeated, it doesn’t help them at all. With time running out and allies wearing thin, they attempt to break out all of their captured comrades from the X-Prison. But when the risks are this high, it’s all going to come down to…Spider-Man?!

BEASTS OF BURDEN: NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH #1

Collecting their three stories from the recent series of Dark Horse Presents, this one-shot showcases everything that the Beasts of Burden, the supernatural defenders of Burden Hill, can do. Featuring dogs, cats, a goblin, and some ghostly sheep!

CHRIS IS ALSO PICKING UP…

- DIAL H #4

- EARTH 2 #4

- SMALLVILLE SEASON 11 #4

- X-FACTOR #241

- SUPERBOY VOL. 1: INCUBATION TP

- X-MEN: FF TP

RYLEY’S PICKS

ANIMAL MAN #12 & SWAMP THING #12

“Rotworld” finally begins here with a two-part prelude to the main event! Both A-Man and Swampy have been leading to this point since they launched almost a year ago. With both characters undergoing sorts of evolutions in the recent issues and new, more powerful allies of the Rot making themselves known, this event is sure to be super awesome.

DAREDEVIL #16

Matt’s gone senseless, literally, and now it’s up to the Avengers to come to his aid by attempting to help him recover from his recent loss of mind. This book is consistently amazing and I’m willing to bet this issue delivers once again.

HAWKEYE #1

Matt Fraction teams with his Immortal Iron Fist partner David Aja again to bring us a much needed ongoing series for Clint Barton. The book looks beautiful and I have a feeling that Fraction’s going to hit a home run with this new series.

IZOMBIE #28

Chris Roberson and Mike Allred’s Vertigo title comes to an end this month, and it’s a serious monster mash. If you haven’t been reading this cult gem I suggest checking it out in collections, as it is quite the fun book. It’s the apocalypse in this final story and our hero Gwen is going to have to figure out a way to save the world and all the people she loves who inhabit it, but the Lovecraftian horrors seem to have something else to say on the matter.

RYLEY IS ALSO PICKING UP…

- ACTION COMICS #12

- DIAL H #4

- EARTH 2 #4

- INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #522

- SWEET TOOTH #36

- X-MEN #33

SAM’S PICKS

2000 AD PROG 1794

Everyone picking up this title is spoiled for choice this issue, with every story being a great little read. Judge Dredd looks spectacular as usual, whilst Aquila also looks to be heading towards a bloody action-packed issue, but the main attraction for me this Prog is watching the daring bank heist in Lenny Zero unfold, with the former Judge audaciously planning to rob Mega-City One’s main credit reserves!

Add to that the intriguing next chapter of Ichabod Azrael, in his next incarnation as reality threatens to collapse, and well, this Prog looks like a winner.

ACTION COMICS #12

There’s a lot going on in this title at the moment, with Superman having to settle into his new secret identity after the death of Clark Kent. However, things don’t look like they are about to calm down for the Man of Steel, as the mysterious ‘First Superman’ comes to Metropolis to visit! And he isn’t here to pick up a Superman t-shirt…

ANIMAL MAN #12 & SWAMP THING #12

We’ve been building up to this point ever since the New 52 began, but now “Rotworld” is finally here! Both titles are prelude issues to the main event, recapping the startling events of the last year for Animal Man and Swamp Thing since the relaunch, making this an accessible event for everyone, whether you have only read one title, or for some bizarre reason, haven’t been reading at all.

“Rotworld” is here - and its going to be awesome!

DAREDEVIL #16

Matt has really been through a traumatic ordeal the last few issues, having been robbed of his senses, and left helpless in Latveria before the Avengers fortunately came to his rescue. This issue promises to see Daredevil attempt to recover from the experience - but worse times are to come for Matt…

SAM IS ALSO PICKING UP…

- AVENGERS VS. X-MEN #9

- AVENGING SPIDER-MAN #10

- DIAL H #4

- TRANSFORMERS: REGENERATION ONE #82
