The future of the 2014 sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man has been somewhat up in the air recently, in regards of just who will be directing. Indeed, a couple of weeks ago, news broke that Webb’s commitment to Fox could prevent him from returning, with him owing Fox a second film. As you could imagine, this is bad news for the director and Sony, with both desiring to work together again, developing the new Spider-Man franchise.

However, Fox could about to be allowing Webb a chance to return to direct Sony’s sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man, although it would come at a cost to the director.
Los Angeles Times are reporting that if the deal is taken, Webb would be permitted to move onto the Spider-Man sequel next, in return for extending his commitment to directing two films for Fox.
As you could imagine, this is a bit of a cheeky deal. Whilst accepting it would certainly free up Webb to return for the sequel as desired, it would see him tied down to Fox for quite a while—presumably preventing him from returning for the planned third Spider-Man film…
