Anime Review: Binbougami ga! - 5

When Chichiko turns into Chibiko…
——

So, how many Dragon Ball Z references are they going to show?

No matter, since Ichiko turning into a kid is the next best thing in the world, and far better than seeing her turned into an old hag. Thank goodness Momiji is a binbougami so everything she plans and does is virtually full of fail. I do find it unfortunate that Momiji is destined for bad luck so whatever success she’s found in part one of this mini-arc, she’s just doomed anyway, period. If you’re wondering why I grind my teeth on this, it’s because I don’t like to rely on luck. And, I know I have horrible luck so I know how you feel, Momiji. I try to enjoy every ounce of luck swung my way too.
So Ichiko turning into Michiko just brings out the natural, cute side of Hanazawa Kana. It also brings out the best in Ichiko herself because crying after wetting the bed is somehow adorable, though I promise I’ll scold my kid if he or she is a repeat offender at an advanced age. Michiko, as it turns out, is even more dangerous than she is — was, whatever — because of the lolicon moe that just makes you feel bad if you ever try to say no. It’s either that or four of five members of the Tsuwabuki siblings are easy targets for her. Poor them, literally.

I’m not going to bother much with the priest and Momou since now they serve as the the perverts who will most likely get you to quit this series or force a reluctant laughter of defeat. If you’re okay with them, kudos to you, but I’m having a hard time stomaching them after their antics together. Unfortunately, my luck says they’re going to be the mainstays for those kinds of gags, so it’s just a slight blip on the radar and something I can overlook.

Episode five works on something new and different, featuring a multi-part to the story that involves Chibiko and the Tsuwabuki. Her irritation towards Keita seems like an obvious hint at a development more down-to-earth and I actually wouldn’t mind this at all. Plus the preview titles for both this and the next episode is much like the full OreImo title so that kind of a parody is always welcome. And of course, more random DBZ stuff is a must. I feel like Binbougami ga! is still going on fairly strong as long as the center of attention remains on Ichiko and Momiji. I kinda like it when they’re both on flat terms. (Ehehe.)
