Kominato catches a glimpse of Kou’s real feelings.

—-

In this chapter, Futaba realizes how jealous she is of Kou’s mysterious friend on the phone because she doesn’t like not knowing something about him. When the two walk home, Kou finds Kominato at his house and they talk. Kominato expresses his wish to help Kou talk through his problem with his friend. He also finds out that Kou likes Futaba. The next day, Futaba talks to Kikuchi during a break and he encourages her to trust herself and be more confident. When she leaves in better spirits, he whispers that he hopes she will like him someday. The chapter ends during the reverse gender maid cafe as Kou’s telephone friend is revealed to be a pretty girl.

This chapter was a bit slow because it was mostly Futaba debating on what growth is and whether or not she is changing. I appreciated the moment with Kikuchi though, because he is very supportive and wise. Futaba needs a straightforward and kind influence like him in her life. I also liked how great Kominato was in this chapter. Not only can he help Kou talk through his problems, but now he can support him in pursuing Futaba. It’s nice to see a male character with a close friend to rely on in this manga.

I think Kominato was correct in worrying over Kou’s behavior with his telephone friend. Both he and Futaba noticed that it was a girl on the phone and Kominato realizes that Futaba may be jealous. He is clearly correct because Futaba looked really worried about the arrival of Kou’s friend. Hopefully, he can break his habit of silence long enough to explain things to Futaba before everything is too messed up.

The excitement of the night festival should make the next chapter more interesting, especially because of Kou’s friend. Kikuchi also knows that Kou might like Futaba so he will probably step up his game as well. It looks to be another dramatic cultural festival!
