Anime Review: Accel World - 17

I’m sure Haru’s heart was swayed only by Black Snow Princess’ words. That little black number had nothing to do it. You’re such a horndog, Haru.

We finally get to see the Nomi vs. Taku/Haru brawl I’ve been waiting for. Well, that’s not entirely accurate - I was waiting for any kind of brawl. Beggars can’t be choosers. But there wasn’t a whole lot to write home about. Don’t get me wrong, it was a very good fight. Nothing wrong with anything in terms of animation or tactics or anything like that. It was a good time had by all. There was a bit more talking between blows than I would have liked, though. And I know we’re supposed to be anti-Nomi, but he did make the excellent point of Haru and Taku being really contrite. But that’s a pretty minor complaint in the grand scheme of things. So overall, good but not great. It didn’t blow me away or get me excited, but it was a rompin’ good time and enjoyable for what it was.

There are a few loose strings like why Chiyu would betray her friends like that. I mean, anyone who’s been spoiled by reading the Wikipedia article knows how that ends (and maybe even if you don’t), but an explanation would be nice. I can’t really say if I’d like to see that bit explained now or later, though. I just want the story to keep moving to be perfectly honest. And this second generation thing Nomi mentioned is bugging me a bit. It doesn’t seem like there will be any follow up on that. I’m skeptical at best because of the episode constraint we have on this show. We have seven more episodes left, with next week focusing on something else entirely. Unless the end of the Nomi story isn’t the end of the story as a whole, I can’t see this second gen thing being addressed all that well. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

It looks like we’re getting a lot of Black Snow Princess next week. That should be fun. It’s infuriating that we’re being left at a cliff hanger with this Nomi thing, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t curious about next week.
