The Weekly Pull List: 08/15/12

Hello everyone, and welcome to the latest edition of the Weekly Pull List!

Every week I team up with fellow comics contributors Chris (littleyellowboxes) and Ryley (ryley-stbatman) and we go through the week’s releases and spotlight our five most anticipated comics from our Pull Lists.

It’s another big week for both Marvel and DC, with the next chapter of Avengers vs. X-Men hitting the stands, whilst Hal Jordan and Sinestro face the wrath of the Black Hand over in Green Lantern, as DC’s Lantern books edge ever closer to “The Third Army”…

Read on to see what made our picks this week!

CHRIS’S PICKS

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #691

Will the Lizard decide to stay human, or will his reptilian instincts pull him back to the cold-blooded lifestyle he is most familiar with? Plus, more developments for the Kingpin, and Spidey’s fight for his life against an army of rabid lizard creatures. What more could you want?

AVENGERS ACADEMY #35

After last issue’s intense change up, things are looking grim for the Avengers Academy cadets. With some powerless, and others in the thrall of the Alchemist, it’s up to their ragtag bunch to do what they can to stop him before he infects the entire planet with SPIN Tech and depowers the entire superhuman populace!

AVENGERS VS. X-MEN #10

After last issue’s defeat of Colossus and Magik by Spider-Man, Cyclops and Emma Frost are the last remaining members of the Phoenix Five, with half of the power of the Phoenix each. When Cyclops arrives in K’un L’un, all seems lost, until Hope and the Scarlet Witch combine their powers - and the world will never be the same.

GREEN LANTERN #12

Black Hand is back, and he has Sinestro and Hal at his mercy. With the full power of the Black Lanterns at his command, Hand is now their fiercest foe, and as the Book of the Black predicted, things are only going to get worse from here…

X-FACTOR #242

“Breaking Points” continues! After Guido’s dramatic exit last issue, Wolfsbane, Shatterstar and Rictor take centre stage as they continue in their quest to track down Rahne’s wayward son. Nothing is ever as easy as it seems, however, and where X-Factor is concerned, nothing ever seems easy to start with!

CHRIS IS ALSO PICKING UP…

- BLUE BEETLE #12

- CAPTAIN MARVEL #2

- DARK AVENGERS #179

RYLEY’S PICKS

DAREDEVIL #17

I’m always excited for a new issue of Daredevil, but this one is special. Why, you ask? Because Mike Allred, one of my personal favorite artists, is lending his talents to this issue! This title just continues to have the best art in the industry, and seeing Allred here seems just to be the beginning of his tenure at Marvel since he’s been signed on with Matt Fraction on FF this November!

SAGA #6

The first arc (or at least what’s collected in the first volume) of Saga concludes here, and it’s sure to be spectacular. If you haven’t been reading this title yet then you really are missing out on one of the flat out greatest comics on the shelves right now.

UNCANNY X-FORCE #29

The X-Force is stuck in the future facing a more extreme version of their team who is devoted to killing future villains before they even do any wrong. On top of that, we got a hugely emotional cliffhanger in the last issue that’s sure to leave readers begging to find out what happens here.

WONDER WOMAN #12

The next stage of Azzarello’s story begins here as Princess Diana is in Olympus along with all her god and goddess bretheren, and that means we’re sure to see a lot of action. Godly, flat out awesome action.

INVISIBLES OMNIBUS HC

I’m actually not going to be grabbing this one (at least not any time soon) because I already own the whole series in paperbacks, but to anyone who hasn’t read Grant Morrison’s insane opus you might want to lay down the $150 for this 1500 page behemoth of awesome. Joined by a who’s who of great artists, this book collects what is without a doubt one of the greatest (and most cerebral) comic series of the modern era.

RYLEY IS ALSO PICKING UP…

- AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #691

- BATWOMAN #12

- DARK AVENGERS #179

- GREEN LANTERN #12

- THE WALKING DEAD #101

SAM’S PICKS

AVENGERS VS. X-MEN #10

The Avengers now have to face the wrath of half of the Phoenix! Cyclops has found their stronghold, and isn’t going to leave until he has Hope! The Avengers struggled to bring down Namor, so what possible hope do they have against Cyclops? Well, it turns out they have the Scarlet Witch and well, Hope. This should be a big one folks!

DAREDEVIL #17

Daredevil has really been through it the last couple of issues, and things don’t look set to get better soon. Foggy has finally confronted Matt about his mental state, with last issue’s startling revelation set to be explored. But first, the duo need to survive an assault from the Stilt Man!

GREEN LANTERN #12

“The Revenge of the Black Hand” is here! Freed from the Indigo Tribe, William Hand once again has reunited with the Black, and I should imagine that isn’t great news for our heroes. Add to this the Guardians scheming in the background, and things are looking especially bleak for Hal Jordan and Sinestro – as well as the rest of the Corps!

GREEN LANTERN CORPS #12

“Alpha War” ends here! The renegade Green Lanterns battle to save John Stewart has escalated even further, with John and Guy unleashing a monstrous Manhunter against the Alpha Lanterns! Can the Corps recover from this new split? And do the Guardians even want it to?

WONDER WOMAN #12

This series has been utterly fantastic from #1, and this looks set to continue this month. With Apollo set to claim Zeus’s throne, Diana is set with a choice – protect the throne, or defend Zola and her unborn child! Apparently the child isn’t set to remain unborn for much longer either… More Amazonian madness is to come I’m sure!

SAM IS ALSO PICKING UP…

- 2000 AD PROG 1796

- AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #691

- BATWOMAN #12

- BLUE BEETLE #12
