Anime Review: Accel World - 19

Who else got Power Ranger flashbacks? Gratuitous assembly galore!

It feels like the show’s just mailing it in at this point. There was nothing about this episode that I enjoyed. I’d go as far to say that there wasn’t really anything good in this episode. This is probably one of the first times where the light novel-ness of Accel World shone through, which, by the way, is not a good thing. Megumi’s appearance was one of pure convenience, deus ex machina style. And the climatic move wasn’t so climatic. Taking off the reins was the thing that does it? Really? Sulfur Pot’s questioning would have been nice to see. And who leaves a neuro-linker out in the open in a cafe? This show is so full of holes, it would sink like a rock in open water. Maybe even in a puddle. I just can’t deal with this, man. What happened to having tight storylines and dynamic action sequences? I want that show back, not this mediocre stuff.

As for what actually happened in the show… solid A for effort. The story may have been subpar but the acting and characters themselves were fine. It was a good time if you can ignore the actual story and why everything was happening. And as Megumi’s and Kuroyukihime’s friendship wasn’t really a part of the Sulfur Pot story, the wrap-up for that was alright too. So not a total bummer. Still disappointing though.

Can’t say I’m super pumped about returning to Haru’s story. It sounds and seems like this whole struggle part of the story is going to go on for a bit longer. And while that’s all fine and good, it’s just so boring to watch.
