This chapter took several re-reads to fully understand just what was going on.

The conclusion to the Jet Black Wedding feast is at hand as Medaka’s strategy to defeat Momozono is finally revealed. Though everything seems to be pointing in Medaka’s win, Momozono has come to the sudden realization that she has been forced into a corner with no way to escape. 

This was a confusing chapter to read at first, admittedly. As stated earlier, this chapter took several re-reads to fully take in, and that is something working against the chapter. However, once I did fully understand how things were working out, this was quite an enjoyable chapter. Medaka’s strategy is finally revealed and it is quite the all-encompassing strategy that no one could have avoided. 

Obviously, with the game of Shiratori Delete and the Japanese language, things get lost in translation so the strategy implemented is tougher to see. Though it’s stated that the syllables forming “Kousan” haven’t been spoken at all since the start of the game, it’s impossible for non-Japanese readers to see because we see everything written differently making it difficult to confirm for ourselves whether the syllables have been said or not. Regardless, I’m going on the assumption that they haven’t said the syllables making Medaka’s strategy that much more an impressive feat. Credit has to go to writer Nishio Issin for coming up with quite the elaborate strategy and implementing it over the course of several chapters. 

The Jet Black Wedding Feast to a close with the rest of the hostages being set free, and Momozono accepting her defeat with quite an amusing, yet cute expression. For someone who was so prideful and confident in her victory over Medaka, it’s a humbling moment for her, but more importantly, a reunion and victory for Medaka and Zenkichi. With Zenkichi’s proposal and Medaka’s acceptance still something to consider along with Medaka’s father’s words there is still more in store for the crew.

This was a good conclusion, albeit, one that took several reads to take in. How they decide to move on back at Hakinowa Academy is something I’ll be on the lookout for.
