We’re going to tread through some dangerous waters for this week’s remix. Sometimes, a great remix can go through quite a transformation while still maintaining the feel of the original.

Luckily, that seems to be the deal with DistantJ’s Black Lagoon remix Put Out Your Misery. The song, whose title is a lyric from MELL’s Red Fraction, is simply brimming with more energy than a ten-year-old who chugged an energy drink on Christmas Eve night. The difference between the original and the remix is evident. After all, DistantJ has given the opening a complete hardcore techno makeover, nearly abandoning its rockier roots.

Yet, it still maintains the original’s intesnsity. There are also some very cool moments in the song, such as when the chorus decides to sneak in while surrounded with an audio wall of harsh techno. It sounds like someone submerged in an ice cold bucket of water, then snapped their head back in such a cliche dramatic fashion. It’s just that this time, their eyes are met with some neon club playground.
