The Weekly Pull List: 08/29/12

Hello all, and welcome to the latest edition of the Weekly Pull List!
Every week I team up with fellow comics contributors Chris (littleyellowboxes) and Ryley (ryley-stbatman) and we go through the week’s releases and spotlight our five most anticipated comics from our Pull Lists.
The next wave of the DC Annuals finally hit, and there’s some fantastic stuff coming our way, with the culmination of the Rogues storyline over in The Flash, whilst Hal Jordan and Sinestro face off against the wrath of the Black Hand in Green Lantern. Oh, and there is also the small matter of the new Aesir/Vanir war brewing over in Marvel’s Journey into Mystery!
Read on to see what made our picks!

CHRIS’S PICKS

ANGEL AND FAITH #13
It seems that the demons of Quar’Toth aren’t quite as fearsome as they used to be - some of them even think Connor is their messiah. Now it’s up to Angel, Faith, Connor, and Willow to save their new friends from death, and get out of the hell dimension, before things get even worse…

CAPTAIN MARVEL #3
Carol has travelled back in time to 1943, and finds herself in the midst of the Second World War. Unfortunately, there’s some tech around that doesn’t seem like it fits in the time period either, and it’s up to Captain Marvel to get rid of it and get back home before the time stream collapses around her!

THE FLASH ANNUAL #1
It’s an all-out war as the Rogues set out to kill the Flash, the Pied Piper, and Captain Cold! Plus, the life of Dr. Elias hangs in the balance, and there’s something sinister on the horizon, too. All this, and find out why the Rogues’ powers have dramatically altered!

GREEN LANTERN ANNUAL #1
‘Hal Jordan will be the greatest Black Lantern’ - these chilling words engraved in the Book of the Black will change everything, as Sinestro and Hal deal with his zombie army. Meanwhile, the Guardians are putting the final stages of their plan into place, as the Third Army march forth!

JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #642
With the next Aesir/Vanir War on the horizon, now seems like the worst time for Thor to find out that Loki has released Surtur from his prison. So, of course, now is when Thor finds out. Asgardia faces threats from within and without, as “Everything Burns” begins!

RYLEY’S PICKS

THE FLASH ANNUAL #1
It’s always fun to see the rogues in action, and it’s especially been nice with the help of Francis Manapul’s brilliant artwork. With this annual set to cap off the first year of Manapul’s Flash stories, it’s sure to end with a bang and leave Flash fans excited for what’s in store for the series’ second year.

GREEN LANTERN ANNUAL #1
Just like the Flash Annual, this one is set to wrap up the first year of stories from Johns’ new Green Lantern series, and you can bet that with a cover like that we won’t leave here with everyone alive. Leading straight into the upcoming “War of the Third Army” event that’ll cross over all the GL books starting in October, this issue should not be missed by fans.

SPACEMAN #9
Though this mini has been a bit underwhelming in its past couple of installments, I have hope that the brilliant team of Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso can wrap this book up in good form. Overall, though, I think this one will read brilliantly when the whole story is collected in one hardcover book. This one’s definitely for the Sci-Fi fans out there.

UNCANNY X-FORCE #30
I’m always happy about UXF, but this week we see the team return to their own time and it’s sure to be an emotional story as it seems a certain young clone might be heading down the path to darkness. If the rumors are true that “The Final Execution” will be Remender’s finale to this series then every issue we get will now be a precious commodity.

WINTER SOLDIER #9
Announced a few days ago was the fact that Ed Brubaker would be leaving this series with issue #14, so just like Uncanny X-Force each issue remaining with Ed at the helm should be treated as a precious commodity. Ed’s Winter Soldier series has been great since issue #1 without a single hiccup along the way, so if you haven’t been reading it already I definitely recommend checking it out.
RYLEY IS ALSO PICKING UP…
- AMERICAN VAMPIRE #30
- AQUAMAN #12
- FF #21
- JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #642
- WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #15

SAM’S PICKS

THE FLASH ANNUAL #1
Flash #12 hit stores only last week, but thank goodness the Annual is out now! With the new-look Rogues finally assembled under Glider’s command, the first year of Manapul and Buccellato’s stint on The Flash is set to come to an enthralling finish, with super-powered chaos unleashed once again in Central City. The Rogues are back in business – and this spells bad news for the Flash, Pied Piper, and especially their former leader, Captain Cold!

GREEN LANTERN ANNUAL #1
The Black Hand’s revenge, complete? With #12 revealing that Hal will become the ‘greatest Black Lantern’, things don’t bode well for our hero, last seen powerless and at the mercy of the Black Hand. Oh, and just what are those pesky Guardians up to? Whatever it is, it doesn’t sound good for the Green Lantern Corps, as the Third Army edges ever closer!

JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #642
“Everything Burns” begins! Over in the last issue of The Mighty Thor, we learned of the last Aesir/Vanir War, and Odin’s role in bringing peace to the Asgardians. But with the All-Father in self-imposed exile, and chaos about to be let loose again as the Vanir , can things get worse for Loki and Thor? Well, yes actually…

THE NEW DEADWARDIANS #6
The detective story with a twist continues! Inspector Suttle’s investigation into the murder of a fellow member of the ‘Young’ has taken him to deep into Zone-B, and into the perils of ‘Bright’ culture. Will he be able to track down the mysterious artist he seeks and get some answers finally? And more importantly, can he survive the growing hostility of Zone-B?

WINTER SOLDIER #9
The Black Widow has been reprogrammed, reverted back to the merciless Soviet killer of old. As she slips back into her old life, just what is her new mission? Can Bucky uncover the truth in time to save Natasha? Or will she be lost forever in her past?
SAM IS ALSO PICKING UP…
