Anime Review: Accel World - 22

Da hell’s going on anymore?! Chiyu: what the crap?!
——

The entire time I was watching this, I was pretty much going “are we there yet?” I have lost all direction and confidence in this series. I can’t even fully justify the premise of the show just being too slow for me; it’s just really bad pacing. Making this Nomi story arc cover the entire latter half of the show is fine, but it’s lost the fizz. Dragging out the investigation/soul searching/training is making the whole story stale and boring. Accel World has become akin to an old piece of gum: trying to stretch the show is only going to make it break. Okay, not the most perfect metaphor, but then I don’t claim to be a master of letters. All I know is that this show is working my last nerve and I’m tired of trying to be optimistic about it. Accel World pretty much sucks.

It’s not even entirely a story issue. Haru has become increasingly annoying to watch. He’s just another Mirai Nikki Yuuki: just always with that defeatist mentality of his. How has this become the latest trend in anime, that the protagonist just oozes of pathetic insecurity? I can’t be the only one who’s indignant about this. I don’t even really care about the tie-in to the Sword Art Online universe. Tie-ins are only exciting if both properties are doing well. Accel World is very steadily building on disappointment upon disappointment and Sword Art Online… well nothing’s wrong with SAO, but the tie-in doesn’t do anything to help Accel.

Not the strongest showing, especially going into its final two episodes. Just a general all around bummer to lead into the week.
GO Rating: 2/5
