The Weekly Pull List: 09/12/12

Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the Weekly Pull List!
Every week I team up with fellow comics contributors Chris (littleyellowboxes) and Ryley (ryley-stbatman) as we go through the week’s releases and spotlight our five most anticipated comics from our Pull Lists.
After a longer wait than usual, Avengers vs. X-Men hits stands again as the stakes raise up another notch or ten! The #0s continue from DC too, with secret histories and revised origins being detailed to celebrate the first year of the New 52.
Read on to see what we picked this week!

CHRIS’S PICKS

AVENGERS VS. X-MEN #11
United at last! The Avengers, the Scarlet Witch, Hope, and the X-Men lead by Professor Xavier are out to stop the final two members of the Phoenix Five. However, Cyclops has other ideas, with his heart set on defeating Emma Frost himself in order to gain her half of the Phoenix’s power. It’s all going to come down to this, in the first of two double-size finale issues!

DEMON KNIGHTS #0
In issue #12, Etrigan sold out the entire team to Lucifer. In this origin issue, find out the reasons why, as the story that linked Etrigan, Jason Blood, Merlin, and Lucifer together will be revealed, as well as what it will mean for the Demon Knights next month!

JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #643
“Everything Burns” Part 3! Thor and Loki battle the Vanir across all nine of the Nine Realms, and without the aid of Hela and her Hel Warriors, it seems that all may be lost. And then there’s the matter of Surtur, whose villainous Steward has been revealed as Loki’s BFF, Leah of Hel, who has somehow survived being reabsorbed into Hela, and now seeks Loki’s downfall!

SCARLET SPIDER #9
Kaine’s got a problem. Not only has he broken into Roxxon’s oil platform, but he’s also unleashed Mammon, a godlike entity from another dimension, and it’s not looking likely that he and the Texas Rangers will be able to send Mammon back where it came from. Well done Kaine, not bad for your second big adventure as the new Scarlet Spider…

WINTER SOLDIER VOL. 1: THE LONGEST WINTER TP
Collects: Winter Soldier (2012) #1-5, Fear Itself (2011) #7.1
Having returned to the shadows after his apparent death during “Fear Itself”, Bucky Barnes once again takes up the mantle of Winter Soldier as he begins to track down the other Winter Soldier operatives that he trained during his time as a brainwashed agent for the Soviet Union. Can he and the Black Widow stop the Sleepers?

RYLEY’S PICKS

BATMAN #0
Every issue of Scott Snyder’s Batman has been A+ material, so there’s no doubt in my mind that the story we get here is going to be great, but I’m looking forward to seeing how Scott tells us the story of the beginning of Batman’s career in the New 52.

CHEW #28
Chew is back! It’s been a couple of months since issue #27 hit shelves so it’s about time we got to see what’s happening with Tony and the gang. Actually, its been about a year since #27 hit the stand as it was published ahead of time as their sort of “One Year Later” story. That said, it’s been a while since the last new issue of Chew, and last we left off we had Toni Chu licking paintings of food. Yeah. So this time the comic goes furry? We’ll see how that works out, but I’m sure it’ll be awesomely hilarious!

INCREDIBLE HULK #13
Jason Aaron’s run on the Hulk moves into its endgame! I was a little disappointed in how “Stay Angry” played out because while entertaining it didn’t seem to have much of a point. But now we get to see how Banner and the Hulk are reunited, and how it leads into the next stage for the Hulk as he is in Marvel NOW! as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.

UNCANNY X-FORCE #31
“The Final Execution” moves into its final act! All is in place as the new Brotherhood of Evil Mutants has acquired Genesis and now the X-Force is going to have to stop them from doing whatever it is they’ve been planning. According to Remender these final five issues are very centered on Wolverine, so I’m expecting a father-son bout between Logan and Daken for the ages.

WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #16
Last issue we saw the first graduate of the Jean Grey School in Angel, and Wolverine formed what was essentially an updated version of the original X-Men roster; Wolverine, Angel, Beast, Rachel Grey, Iceman, and Professor X. This month they get to deal with the Hellfire Club, which essentially means it’s going to be a hell of an awesome issue. I definitely wouldn’t want to miss out on this one.

- FANTASTIC FOUR #610

SAM’S PICKS

BATMAN #0
The #0s do seem a bit invasive in some titles, causing a break in some storylines at awkward times. This one slots in perfectly for Batman however, and despite going over well covered ground, I bet it’ll be another spectacular issue. Detailing the early days of the Batman, this issue sees the recently returned Bruce Wayne refine his alter ego, with the help of Alfred Pennyworth, and practical experience.

FANTASTIC FOUR #610
This title and FF has admittedly meandered a bit, as both are preparing to end and get relaunched as part of Marvel NOW! This issue sees the part of what looks to be an interesting little two-parter between the titles however, as the Wizard returns, to retrieve his son Bentley 23 from the Future Foundation!

GREEN LANTERN CORPS #0
I’ve been looking forward to this issue ever since it was announced. Detailing the New 52 origin of Guy Gardner, this issue promises to shed some light on the character’s motivations – but more importantly, it will hopefully streamline and refine what can be a somewhat convoluted back-story for the character for the New 52.

JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #643
…
I’m still recovering from the effects of the major reveal over in the pages of The Mighty Thor, where Surtur’s steward was revealed to be none other than Leah! And considering her past with Loki, she should be able to anticipate just about every move which the trickster will make amidst the chaos. So, it’s probably not a good thing that he is sneaking into Surtur’s kingdom then. “Everything Burns” continues!

WINTER SOLDIER #10
It was too easy, wasn’t it? Bucky thought his quest to save Natasha from Leo was over, but it hasn’t even begun! With the Black Widow’s programming still intact, and her last back at a S.H.I.E.L.D. facility, what is the next stage of Leo’s scheme against his old mentor? I’m betting it’s not good news for Bucky, who could really do with a break right now.
