Okay, so, actually, I don’t know what I want to say anymore. This show is simultaneously entertaining and mind-numbingly dumb. It’s a weird combination that confuses my poor reviewer brain. How is that even possible? It’s not even a case of “so bad, it’s good” either. I legitimately think it’s a solid anime that just happens to be really really stupid. Every development in this show comes off a twist of convenience. Black Lotus shows up just cause. Nomi is in with a bunch of hackers out of coincidence. Black Vice just happens to have amazing defense even though his color is black. Have I mentioned how confusing the colors are? Seriously. “Oh. He’s tough.” “Well, he is a metallic color after all.” How does that explain anything?! We don’t even really know what being a metallic color means! Plus, I thought there was only one pure black avatar. Isn’t that why the kings were the Kings of Seven Colors or whatever? Accel World, you’re f*cking up so bad. 

And did I mention Nomi’s stupid disgusting face? Let’s revisit that for a second. He has to have one of the most expressive faces I have ever seen in anime. And it constantly looks like he’s either super constipated or trying to do a Joker impression. Sometimes both. Whoever was animating him must have had a helluva time doing it because look at it! It’s amazing what they get him to look like. And his backstory about his manipulative brother is a case of too little too late. Now that he’s a complete and utter butt munch, I’m supposed to care what his problem is? Better to leave him as a complete crap character than waste time explaining. He’s an amazing antagonist — I’ve never wanted to curb stomp a 2D character more — but he’s completely one-dimensional. 

I can’t really decide if I’m enjoying this show because I like making fun of it or I’m actually enjoying it. I almost don’t mind that this was the penultimate episode because I’m just so confused on how the’ve managed to trick me like this.
