Anime Review: Kokoro Connect - 11

The holiday season seems to start earlier and earlier every year…

Now this is more like it! This looks like it’ll be so much more fun than the “desire unleashing” arc. I mean, who wouldn’t want to be a kid again? Actually, there might be someone who would rather be an adult, but I don’t understand why. It’s like the ultimate nostalgia trip. And plus, this is just plain funnier than unleashing unrealized desires. I really have to commend the author for this story arc. You’d pretty much have to write an entire fictional biography for four different characters. It sounds like it could be pretty fun, but as a writer, it’s a daunting thought. Anyway, very good gag. I’m glad the sophomore slump wasn’t a steady decline.

Besides the “time regression” thing, everything else is getting pretty serious. Second sounds more capricious than the original Heartseed. It sounds like Iori’s home situation is getting progressively worse and Yui facing her past sounds like it could bring some serious weight to the story. We still don’t know the specifics of either of their situations but it doesn’t sound like we will anytime soon. And Inaba’s as cautious as ever, though now it makes more sense. Fear would naturally cultivate caution, and Inaba’s past really informs her present’s thoughts. I don’t like that I push Aoki to the side though; he has a lot of unrealized potential as a character. And when it does, it’s kinda boring. I mean, I get his conflicted feelings on falling out of love, but that’s specifically a teenager problem.

Plain and simple, I’m just having more fun with this one. It’s a good gag with a lot of potential with some solid story behind it. I’m excited to see how this gets to New Year’s with three kids.
