The penultimate puzzle time. Start!
The episode started off intense by getting Nonoha involved in truly surprising events. Freecell seemed to be so overcome with his new Phi Brain abilities that he was having the same type of future vision that Diamon Kaito experienced throughout the first season. However, unlike Kaito’s, which debilitated him on the spot and left him in a world of solitude, Freecell’s gave him a glimpse of a future he desired… or so he thought. Nonoha seemed to obscure his future of only having his precious Kaito. Why was she there and what did this mean for the future? Without any way of knowing, he kidnapped her and took her directly to his location near where the Puzzle of God showdown would take place.
The dialogue with Nonoha and Freecell was at times hilarious to sentimental. I almost thought he had given up his desire to puzzle time with Kaito, but I think when he went into that laughing fit, he was so overcome with emotions he was not familiar with and just laughed it off, knowing that he truly desired it. Puzzle time with Kaito is an event that we have been waiting for for so long that we just want it to transpire. Nonoha essentially ruined the mood when she brought up Solitia, Freecell’s mother. I think she could have waited until another time to reveal that she was the first sacrifice of the replica ring.
It seemed quite creepy when Freecell started to believe that Nonoha was his mom. Was this a sign that his mind was not fully warped by the ring? Hopefully not, as if he goes too far he may not be able to be saved by Kaito. One of the best things in the whole scene was the pure smiles that he was giving to the puzzle that Nonoha made, and I loved it.
Concurrently, Daimon Kaito and crew arrived and were treated to Hoist’s revelation that he knew Solitia and he was the one tasked with the desire of seeing the true goal of the Orpheus Order come to pass. That Klondike-sama was a mere step in the long ladder to reach their goal was an actual piece in the large puzzle of his ambition. Hoist was so glad to see Daimon and Freecell face off. Unfortunately for him, and with the most dramatic of songs from the soundtrack playing, Freecell kicked him out of the arena.
It was truly a delightful episode that finally gave Freecell the truth behind his mother. Although he had a mix of odd emotions resulting from that moment, it was still touching to see. Even more, with Hoist now out of the way and all the players in place, all the pieces are now in place for an outstanding finale. No need to waste time getting characters in position or motives shared, they can truly spend more time on this Infinite Puzzle. Verily, Phi Brain Puzzle of God 2 will have a glorious ending episode.
