The Weekly Pull List: 09/19/12

Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the Weekly Pull List!
This week, Sam (sjhawkins) has had some technical difficulties, so it’s my turn to post our weekly look at the week’s releases as we spotlight our five most anticipated comics from our Pull Lists. As usual, I am joined by Sam, and Ryley (ryley-stbatman).
This week sees some more of the DC Zero Month instalments, including another brand new series with Sword of Sorcery, whilst over at Marvel, Everything Burns continues to set the Nine Realms ablaze in Mighty Thor, and the critically acclaimed Daredevil sets out on a brand new adventure.
Read on to see what we picked this week!

CHRIS’S PICKS

AVENGERS ACADEMY #37
The Academy kids are too late; Jeremy Briggs has released his SPIN Tech Cleanslate across the country, and it’s set to depower any superhumans it touches. Now it’s a last ditch effort to stop Briggs and his plans before something even worse can occur in the finale to the Avengers Academy’s Final Exam!

GREEN LANTERN: NEW GUARDIANS #0
The New Guardians team has shattered, and now Kyle Rayner and Carol Ferris are going to put a new one together. See Atrocitus, Arkillo, Larfleeze, Saint Walker, Carol, and Kyle together again as a new direction for the New Guardians is revealed!

MIGHTY THOR #20
Everything continues to burn as Everything Burns continues! Loki has betrayed Thor, leaving him trapped in Muspelheim at Surtur’s mercy. What are Loki’s true motivations, and where does the new Leah factor into his plans? And, Volstagg leads the forces of Asgardia into battle, perhaps for the final time!

VENOM #25
Flash has a demon in his head, a symbiote on his body, and an entire army of Monsters of Evil to deal with. Nothing too hard then, right? It’s Venom versus the hordes of Hellstrom as the symbiotic superhero gives it his all in this battle to decide who owns his soul!

X-FACTOR #244
Ever since her encounter with the Morrigan, Banshee has been almost reclusive, and now it’s time for her to step out of the shadows in order to feel the effects of Breaking Points, as X-Factor continues to fracture both from within and without.

RYLEY’S PICKS

DAREDEVIL #18
Mark Waid’s run with Daredevil has not disappointed one bit as of yet, and in this next big storyline which Marvel is calling the “Biggest Daredevil Story Yet” that quality is sure to continue in spades. Joined by Chris Samnee, Waid is about to pit Matt Murdock head to head with a new villain called Coyote. Meanwhile, Matt’s sanity is back into question after the heart-wrenching events of the previous issues. All’s I’m gonna say is this is sure to be a damn good comic, as always.

PETER PANZERFAUST #6
The acclaimed series is back! Originally solicited as a five issue mini, Panzerfaust was extended to ongoing status, so here starts the second arc; Paris. I have no doubt that Wiebe and Jenkins will capture the same magic they did in the first arc, so if you haven’t been reading yet go grab yourself a copy of volume 1 and get caught up!

SPIDER-MEN #5
Bendis and Pichelli finish off their reality spanning mini-series this month, and life promises to never be the same again for both Peter and Miles from this point on. The mini has been pretty strong thus far, but it hasn’t seemed like much more than just a pretty standard story (with a lot of emotion thrown at us in that last issue), but hopefully this final issue can show us just why Marvel had to go and do what they said they never would and crossover the Ultimate Universe with 616.

SWORD OF SORCERY #0
The third of DC’s Third Wave stories is here this week, and this time it stars Gemworld’s Amethyst! I’m completely unfamiliar with EVERYTHING about this book, from the character to the creative team, but I gave Dial H the benefit of the doubt five months ago and was very pleasantly surprised, so I’m hoping for a similar reaction to this book.

WONDER WOMAN #0
Azzarello and Chiang give us a story of Diana’s past that helps to lead the way into the second year of their amazing Wonder Woman series. It seems this issue is set to star a minotaur, which is awesome, but I’m more concerned in seeing how this leads into what Azz is planning with the New Gods. Either way it should be a fantastic story.
RYLEY IS ALSO PICKING UP…
- BATWOMAN #0
- DARK AVENGERS #181
- FABLES #121
- MIGHTY THOR #20
- UNWRITTEN #41
- WALKING DEAD #102

SAM’S PICKS

BATWOMAN #0
Batwoman gets her second #0 already! Whereas the last one set up her for an ongoing series, this issue promises to show the path which Kate travelled after her discharge from the army to take up the mantle of Batwoman. It should be a great read, and as ever on Batwoman, it will look fantastic too.

DAREDEVIL #18
I have run out of nice things to say about this title, with Waid returning Matt Murdock to a prominent position amongst the Marvel books - and delivering fantastic issue after issue. At the moment questions are being asked of Matt’s sanity, with recent events starting to take their toll. Guess that means it is time for a new villain to arise! Meet the mysterious killer, simply known as the Coyote!

GREEN LANTERN: NEW GUARDIANS #0
This is one of the few #0s which isn’t flashing back, but instead staying firmly in the present. With the New Guardians disbanding after an eventful first mission, its up to Carol Ferris and Kyle Rayner to round up the troops again and rebuild. And they need to do it quick soon, with the Third Army looming…

THE MIGHTY THOR #20
Just when you think this storyline can’t surprise you again - Loki happens. With last issue of Journey into Mystery featuring an amazing twist, the question has to be asked - where does Loki really stand? Thor better hope it is with him and Asgard, since he was last seen disappearing into the depths of Surtur’s realm…

SPIDER-MEN #5
The crossover Marvel claimed that would never happen comes to an end! It has been a big day for both Peter and Miles, with the two learning invaluable lessons about themselves and each other. But will they be able to survive the final onslaught of Mysterio? And just how does Peter get home?
SAM IS ALSO PICKING UP…
