Manga Review: Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun - 33

Part two of the exciting summer trip begins!
——
In this chapter Yamaken is once again disturbed by having to witness Shizuku and Haru’s relationship, and Iyo attempts to break them up. The group goes into town and Shizuku and Haru decide to collect stamps and earn some free jam. They are interrupted by the sudden appearance of Yuuzan, who Haru runs away from at first site. Shizuku worries that she and Haru don’t look like a couple as well. She is soon whisked away by Yuuzan to the chagrin of Haru and Yamaken. Yuuzan comforts Shizuku in letting her know that he thinks that she and Haru go well together. Haru retrieves Shizuku and the group heads home. In the mean time, Natsume decides to visit Micchan and talk to him about what happened at Sasayan’s recommendation. The chapter ends with Yamaken telling Shizuku that they can’t be friends anymore.
A lot of stuff happened in this chapter, and it was definitely a nice source of kawaii when it came to Shizuku and Haru. I was especially touched by his resting her head on his shoulder on the train. I am proud of Yuuzan, as well, for truly improving his relationship with his brother and approving of the relationship. I am also proud of Yamaken for breaking it off with Shizuku because he is only causing himself pain by staying around her.

I am most curious about what will happen with the characters who were less focused on in this chapter. Sasayan seems to have done a great deal of observation and advice giving for his friends, and I wonder if he’ll take any sort of action soon, especially pertaining to Natsume. I also hope that Natsume can work through things with Micchan and be a happier person for it. I also wonder what part Iyo will have in all of this as she hasn’t been much more than a minor character as of yet.

I’m looking forward to the next chapter because this storyline has come to a pretty conclusive end. Will Shizuku and Haru grow stronger? Or will she regret her decision to part with Yamaken? Here’s to hoping that the minor characters will get more focus as well.

GO Rating: 4/5
